I just came across this on e-bay, is this legal, what would the rozzers say if they pulled you up in it?

With original chassis, engine and drivetrain, would it not score enough points to retain the RR ID?
I'd of thought yes, but I'm well out of date with legislation.

But with a shortened chassis wouldn't it need a modified vehicle VOSA test anyway which would put it on a Q plate or am I missing something else?

I think your right as that would be a ‘major’ modification from original spec.

I wonder if it’s just a RR engine and vin plate...

Ask the ad is full if spiel, unable to contact owners etc, doesn’t ‘know’ full history of conversion, etc etc.

It’s ringing alarm bells for me but I am a suspicious bastard. I would be very wary if it was me.

Chopping the chassis to get the required wheel base..Dvla need to inspect

If they had left the wheel base alone and put on a Landrover body all is fine. Just send the log book off for body type change.
Did do this in the late 80's to a few 100" Landrover(range rovers) but photos & receipts were to hand & passed on to the next owner.
DVLA were helpful in 80's to ensure build were ok & 2 were inspected.

I did once own a discovery that was on a range rover chassis but they were exactly the same at the time and all done above board. I think this one is done purely for the tax status after all defenders are coil sprung anyway just not in this period...... got no sympathy for anybody that does that it just gives more ammo to the anti brigade, and even more excuses for the government to crack down on modified vehicles eventually it will be virtually impossible to get a landrover through an MOT.
