It certainly looks like a S3 but something's not right here - H reg runs out July 1970, S3 launch Oct 1971. Proceed with caution and check reg documents and VIN numbers, this one could be a ringer.

Somewhere on this forum there's a link to serial no.s types and dates - do a search and check all is kosher. Could well be a legit upgrade of a 2a, or.....

Look at johnny curts rebuild for an example. Thought that was a series 3 until it turned out to be a rebodied series 2...

Best bet is to check chassis number

This might sound naive but given the amount of customisation options and ease of changing parts does it really matter in the long run? Clearly we should be careful it is not stolen but in terms of changes with vehicles this old should we be overly worried? I know that purists will argue for originality but if we have a Landy in decent order and it is not being sold as an original for top dollar is there a big issue? Off to hide behind the couch now awaiting replies attached to heavy things.....

Its not the fact of it not being toriginal that is the worry. Its more if someone has done the illegal thing of fitting say a 2A plate on a late series 3 to make it tax exempt. I'd hate to buy something and then 2 weeks later get it taken away from me for being illegal, leaving me with no cash and no motor

You see quite a few supposedly "tax-exempt" defenders on ebay sometimes
