This is my tax exempt SWB 88 1966 Land rover Series 2a. It used to belong to a friend of mine who drove it for a short while until he stripped it down on my drive.

When it was brought it had a defender bulkhead and most of the body work was rotten. The engine was also on its last legs at the time, which is why the land rover was stripped.

When he was driving it I fitted some range rover differentials in it which greatly improve economy and raise the top speed and make it much more bearable on the motorway.

After it was stripped the chassis was given a quick coat of chassis paint (some is peeling off) for protection. The engine was changed for a military unit and the brakes were then completely replaced with brand new cylinders new shoes and even all four drums are brand new.

Eventually he lost interested in the project and so I purchased it off of him. I have rebuilt numerous land rovers but I have so many other projects on I may as well pass it on to someone who will finish it. Its been stood on my drive for the past 5 years.

Ive gone over the whole chassis and found it needs 3 small patches, one on the underneath of an outrigger, one tiny patch on the dumb iron and one on the bottom of the chassis rail. Its only about 20 minutes of welding.

Good Points

• Tax exempt
• Chassis in good condition for age
• Reconditioned military engine fitted which turns over fine (I ran it up a while back and it ran fine)
• Series 2a crash box
• Military axles have been fitted at some point
• Range Rover differentials (better fuel economy and speed)
• New wheel cylinders
• New Brake shoes
• New Brake drums
• New stainless steel flexible brake lines
• Leather swivel gaiters (Swivels are in perfect condition)
• Safari roof and sides with windows included.
• Loads of doors and door tops
• Military and civilian bonnet included
• Windscreen included
• Rear door included
• Very good set of Series 2a ex military wings (these cost a lot of money) (Blue)
• Original civilian wings also included (Red)
• Very large amount of spares included which aren’t pictured. (In my shed i have boxes of parts that will also be included, these include prop shaft, engine parts, various odds and ends etc.)
• A choice of either the beige eight spokes on the land rover, or the chrome ones in the picture or a set of standard land rover series wheels. (All tyres are not road legal)
• I have the v5 in my name

Bad Points

• Three small plates needed on chassis (one on the underneath of an outrigger, one tiny patch on the dumb iron and one on the bottom of the chassis rail. Its only about 20 minutes of welding and very simple plating).
• No rear tub (was rotten)
• No bulkhead (when brought, it was a defender one so it was removed and sold)
• No seat box, they are very cheap to get off eBay or a breakers
• Probably a few other small bits and pieces missing

The car is located in Bromyard, Worcestershire.
