Broke the front one today.

Do I need it?

Shall I repair and put back?

Or shall get some proper under gear protection? If so what best?

Quite a few of us on here don't have a high opinion of the factory supplied plastic undertrays. They tend to become brittle over time, and they seem to trap a lot of dirt. The car works perfectly well without them.

Yes, if you do want some serious protection, there are some rather nice metal engine and gearbox protectors. However, unless you find yourself high-centring the car a lot, it's probably not worth it because they're heavy and often jot cheap either. I manage quite well by trying to keep my wheels out of deep ruts and driving on the high spots. I don't think I've fouled the underside yet.
