110 suspention upgrade

hey chaps

Im going to be giveing the landy a new suspension setup next week after the respray and im in 2 frames of mind what to go for , the two i am thinking of is a heavy duty set up or a 2" lift set up..i use the landy all day everyday and off road most of its life as i am a game keepers hand so i carter alot of stuff about ,trailers etc and come shooting season beaters and dogs will be in the back ,ive done a bit of reading and im leaning towards the heavy duty side of things but it whould be good to have a little more chassis clearance for the job ,i know the diffs stay the same hight but ill be getting bigger tyres aswell at the same time, i curently have 235/85/16 on and was thinking of some 33" chaps or something to give them that extra boost? . What whould you guys go for?

any help chaps will be greatly appreciated

your prob going to need 2" if you go for 33" anything over 265's and your articulation will rub bodywork on a standard lift. cant you get heavy duty 2" lifts? other option would be to buy heavy duty standard springs and get 2" lift spacers put underneath them.

What kind of terrain are you working on?

I've managed to get get round some pretty silly rutted wooded estates on road tyres and standard lift.

You could save some cash by just sticking some new shocks on and getting some MT's

griffdowg thats some good info there i never thought about that,after some hard thinking and browseing at tyres i think ill leave out the 33" yins and just go for the same size i have on just now ive been givein a good price on some 4X colway greenway MACHO fitted on black 8spokes and posted to my house for £300 whats yer view on them?

alane, the terrain i work on is a bit of everything realy ,muddy fields,rutted woodland,couple small river crossings a lot o grass hills(muddy with all this rain we been getting) id say a fair mix of it all ,i have had a couple ehh momments lol that i had to radio back for help on ,got stuck a wee bitl ol,i have been useing bf goodridge track edge tyres,but thay are getting a bit old now and in need of replacement ,im now thinking of just going for the standard springs but heavy duty ones to cope with the towing etc a bit better.
let me know what yis think

yer the macho's are pretty good... ive heard. sticking with 235's is prob your best option. by the sounds of your terrain you wont need a lift or silly big tyres, just ones with masses of tread and self clearence ability. if your hauling trailers heavy duty rear springs are deff the way to go. im not sure what people who tow do, wether they run HD rears and standard fronts, or HDs all around. worth waiting on an opinion of someone who knows.

what you will notice though is the ride (when not towing, and an empty 110) will be much harsher. unfortunately you cant have the best of both worlds.

after your info and looking around a bit i have went fo the non lifted heavy duty kit i should hopefully get that fixed up this week and im defo gona stick with the same size tyres ,think ill go for the machos it seems a good price for them? ive just finshed re-spraying the landy so am back out to finshe putting the side windows back in..i dont know if its me lol or are these damn side windows ment to be hard to put back in? thay came out right nice and peacefully like .Not so easy going back in lol.

Put a thin piece of string inside the rubber seal (para cord works well) make sure the loose end go inside the vehicle the position the window in place and slowly pull the string out of the window. as you do it will pull the lip of the seal over the edge of the window opening.

I have another problem now. i snaped the rear suspension upper mount the bit the shock fixes to (threaded bit),and the damn front suspension upper and lower bolts are totaly rusted/seized to crap ive tryed everything i
can think of to get them off,the only thing ive not tryed is a grinder but i have no idea how to get to the bottom bolts at the axle ,the top ones i think i can get to ok ,i hope..Have you guys got any ideas/help on this one as i am stumped ive allready swore at the damn thing for about 2 hours and its not helping lol.

Well i went out and got maself a pack o cutting disks and im going to have a go at these front shock bolts the morn.i think i can get to the lower shock bolt by cutting it just above the lower top bush( on the shocker side) by cutting the spring , ill clamp the upper half b4 i start so it wont ping on me?and take ma head off. unless you folks have any other ideas im gona go for it in the morning hopefully my rear shock upper mount gets here tomorow so i can complete the thing and get back out there in it and post a photo up of how she looks now wi the new spray job n bits it was our first real go at spraying me bro done most o it tbh i just done the prep work ,but it looks alot better i think and ave had a few folk pass by n say how much better it looks now..good to see thay stop and like to have a chat about it..i love landys

It's probly the accent but I gave up reading half of your last post. Any old how.Have you tried heating the siezed bits up with a blow lamp? Squirt some oil onto the stuck bits and heat it up till the oil starts bubbling, giving the bolt top a good belt with a nammer sometimes helps. Dunno what age your vehicle is but it could have UNF threads on the front suspension gubbins in which case you'll need imperial tools.

lol aye sorry grunt i had a few beers last night and my typeing kinda went a bit ****ed anaw= TOO , lol ,Anyways chap thankyou for that info the said landy is a 1986 110 and i dont think the shocks have been changed in a long time i went through 3 spanner sizes trying to free them and everytime it took off a layer of rusted metal hence why i had to go to a smaller spanner everytime lol. ive got new nuts and all with the new shockers so thats no problem.i do have a blow lamp so i might give what you said a try.my only gripe being it will prob just take off another layer of rusted metal lol. ill give it a bash and see how i get on with it.I have to stay in this morning am waiting on the postman bringing some new bits for me and i had to park the landy up the back on the horse stables car park its the only bit o flat ground i got but theres no way ill hear the door from there..... lol the driveways like a hill.

the spanner you need is a 9/16" for the shock bolts. they are mega stubborn but they will come off with lots ofoil and leaving it soak in.

haeing a few probs with em new shocks eh m8 not to worry be worth it when done the landy looks lovely in its new colour.

If you no already tried see if you can either use the grinder to make some lines on the sides of the rusted bolts or use a Ti drill bit and do the same and u can then use a chizel and hammer and split it all off.

griffdowg cheers for that info m8..i got the landy done yesterday a few beers and the grinder sorted it out hehe boner aye i went down the grinder line (mans best friend next to the dog lol) i had all ready got ma cutting disks for it but thought i whould give the heating up a try but it never worked to well so in with the grinder i went ,
i just got to do the back pasengers side as my mount never came today so hopefully on monday ill get it finshed and that will be me sorted all ready to go again.I took a couple of photos to let yuos see how she looks now,,still gota get ma new tyres but apart from that its all done on the cosmetic side of things,,still got to do ma service stuff like new one-shot grease for the swivels,new filters oil/fuel/air etc and timeing belt , ive got it all there so will get that sorted next week too,anyhows heres a photo or to of the new look and again thankx for the help and hints guys.

time for some beer
