Thanks, Im not currently insured as I'm 15, but would It help if I was to put the 3.9 In before I was to insure it?

I didn't realise you were so young:monitor_punch:
I am now trying to decide whether you are genuinely a budding Land Rover enthusiast, in which case you are to be commended & I'm sure there are experienced guys on here who will advise & encourage you, OR you are just using this forum to take the p... in which case you are likely to be, at the very least, totally ignored.

Why the hell would he want to do all that? It would be much cheaper to buy a 2nd hand 3.9 from a knackered Discovery and drop it in. Immediate improvement to 180bhp, with a lot less buggering about.

cos it will be buggered to..worn cam, lifters, rocker arms etc.AND PRONE TO slipped liners .but yes all the electronics etc there..

Not necessarily. I have owned 2 3.9's and mechanically they have been superb. There is no reason that a properly maintained 3.9 shouldn't last 180k miles at least. They only really fail if neglected or abused.

Speaking from past bitter experience I can assure you that's not always the case. My '93 purchased at 75k with a FLRSH (& well maintained in my ownership) slipped a liner at 90k, 12k after having LPG fitted  A mate's 3.9 did exactly the same at around the same mileage, albeit having run on 'gas for slightly longer. I have only owned 3.5's since & only run on petrol.

me 4.6 is on gas..but i run aftermarket ecu so can keep afr ratio sensible, unlike LR ecu's..

but anyway ALL rv8's cams and lifters are ####ed at 50k miles..so at 180k would be running so crap compared to new..this is proven.no arguments etc..
