Hey all,

After last years DIY repair on the rear shock absorber mount, heard some more knocking from the rear end this week and the rear chassis looks terminal.

As much as I would love a crack at lifting the body off and replacing the chassis myself, couple of practical things to consider, I don’t have an indoor space or lift and work commitments are building up more and more after Covid.

so been on the the old tinterweb this morning and spoken with Ann at replacement chassis parts in Southam (50 mins from me) https://m.facebook.com/pages/catego...-Chassis-Parts-295205760673497/?locale2=en_GB

they look a reputable firm and she quoted an extended 1/2 chassis replacement supply and fit for £1850.

They would need the disco for 5-7 days

seems a reasonable price for such work. It’s more than I paid for the disco in the first place, but a non sun roof se model with only 125k on the clock it seems like a logician decision to have this done and keep the disco for many more years.

Couple of questions....

1. Has anyone in the midlands area had the 1/2 chassis work done by anyone they could recommend? And how much was it?

2. I’m sure RCP will have good experience on this but what other wear/rubber items should I replace whilst they have the disco in bits?

thanks

Bloke who did my chassis repairs offered a replacement 1/3 galv chassis for £700. + Vat. He welded it up for £200 +Vat instead and did such a good job I doubt I'll need the other thing for sometime.
He is in Ferndown, East Dorset.

I did my own 1/4 replacement took me a few days, I have posted it on this forum, as it after the axle it was relativity easy the hardest part was emptying the fuel tank

Cheers for replies so far, a 1/4 or 1/3 wouldn’t get far enough for my needs.

surely there’s others that had needed the 1/2 done?

Thanks for sharing and comments.

I took the plunge today and paid the deposit for an extended 1/2 chassis replacement at RCP.

earliest they could get my in is end of March (I took it as a good sign they are busy)

I have to drop the disco off on the Saturday and collect it the Saturday after.

I will try and make sure I get photos of the stages and will give an review once I get it back
