Next door neighbour has one of the above. The lady has just pulled the door trim off by opening the door when it was the perfect height above a low wall to catch the trim. Her hubby is coming back in a few hours.
I'm trying to find out how the trim clips work.
I've found these on ebay and they look the same. EBAY LINK What I can see on her clips is a small plastic ball about 3mm diameter. Is that what is on the white piece and do they just bang in to the yellow piece? Know nothing about the D3, I'm usually on the Defender forum. Cheers for any help.

EDIT
I'm just thinking about what it looked like, the small plastic ball might have been on the door part of the clip. Will that mean they have snapped?

2nd EDIT
Due to age my memory is iffy, so I went out and had another look. The plastic ball is on the door part of the clip. There are other big black clips in there, so I'll have to track down those. I'm thinking the plastic balls (or the opposite holes) are probably now slightly deformed and so won't grip and hold?

Will this be a straightforward job to pull the lot off and refit with new clips. If it was mine I'd just do that, but don't want to volunteer for the neighbour if it's a nightmare and I could make it worse for them.

hi

yes they are the correct clips

this is the easy way , remove the clips from the door , ones that have the small ball on them , also remove clips from the door trim

make sure u have clipped the new clips together first , fit them onto the plastic door trim

then tap the plastic trim onto the door

don't try and attempt to fit a clip on each , i.e. one on the door and other on the trim, u will damage the door trying to get them on

trying to remember if at the front it slots in first then the rest are pushed on

where u fit two at the from of the door, slide the plastic trim into them then tap the rest in

hope that helps and makes sense

just found pic when i done mine , u can see the two parts are already clipped together

Cheers, gstuart. Yeah, trying to 'bang' them together with the palm of the hand is not working. Any idea how many clips are in there? It's the trim along the bottom of the door and the wheel arch? Having said that, I suppose we could just pull the lot off and try refitting the existing clips together then push them back in to the door. Are the clips fairly re-usable? I know the Defender door card ones tend to split and/or snap.

hi

yes trying to bang them on won't work , they do indeed break

get a ring spanner or socket , have to be small enough to sit one part of the clip on , use another socket to then tap them together

the trim in the wheel arch should just go back with a tap

if not, u have to remove them, join together , fit onto trim then tap them on

think it was around 10 x for the door trim , pretty sure u have to slot the front door trim on first then tap the rest on

plse let me know how u get on or stuck

order 20 x of them , , as there so cheap u could order 40 x so there are plenty spare for later use

Cheers, mate. I've just been and showed her your picture. We've pulled all the trim off and two of the white trim side of the clips are broken. She tried to get one of the yellow bits out of the door and it snapped too. We've given up on fixing it before hubby returns. Going to buy 20 new clips and try to refit mid week when they arrive from ebay. Awesome support, mate. Thanks again. I think she was taken aback by the response from LZ :)

yes the white clips at the end fit in first , they will indeed break and every clip on the door will have to come out, some dropping inside the door

always happy to help a fellow LZ member and that it was of some use :D:D

doubt it very much , but feel free to give me a shout if u get stuck ;)

@gstuart
Just thought I'd let you know the outcome. I bought the clips off ebay and they arrived wednesday, so I put them through neighbours door with a brief description of how to fit them (thanks to you). I got a thank you card yesterday. She had replaced the clips and 'the trim fitted back on like new'. She's over the moon. Wanted to pass on her appreciation to where it really belongs. Cheers. :)
