Hi There,

Newbie here, please be gentle!!!

I've just picked up an '04 td5 110 tipper for farm use (basically a posh wheelbarrow, lol)

I'm not going to be doing many miles with it, but that said I want it to be right, and to that end i want to address it's gutlessness. Now don't get me wrong, i was expecting it to be slow, but Come on......

it takes absolutely forever to come on boost, doesn't produce much power when it does get there, and when you change gear (after holding onto the revs until it isn't giving any more) it drops right off the power again and doesn't gain ANY speed for several seconds.

This surely can't be right for a semi-recent engine, can it???

in what order should i be addressing things (going from cheap>expensive)

EGR valve removal (which kit? who to get it off? likelihood of a good result?)
Intercooler clean (just removal, upend and a load of brake cleaner???)
MAF/MAP clean?

that is about the extent of my googlage, any other suggestions? is this a common occurance or am i just better off going to a specialist? (West Mids, who is good?)

Help please!!!

Sorry to be so needy on my first post, hopefully i'll develop into a productive member of the community as my experience with these cars increases.

Check to see if you have a boost leak anywhere - Should be boosting around 16 - 18psi
Check all the hoses for leaks/splits/ballooning etc..
Check its actually still 4wd

Most of the EGR blank kits are fine, I got mine of JGS 4x4 on ebay. Easy to fit.

Unplug the MAF and go for a drive see if that improves things. Clean the MAP.

Find someone with some diagnostics plug in and go for a drive see what it says.

(Id also go over to the introduce yourself section before this happens :violent: :dnfnoob: - Otherside welcome :)

Hi all,

a bit of an update.

took it to my local LR indy for a look over, he took it for a test drive, agreed that it was slower than his up hills etc once it got off boost.

Got back, checked for leaks (none), plugged his diagnostics in, all the sensors were giving sensible readings. I suggested possible wastegate sticking, so he gave that a good old waggle with a screwdriver...

And blow me, it appears to have worked!!! It's now much more tractable, pulling its way out of gears if you let the revs get a bit too low. I've got an EGR blanking kit on it's way to see if that helps spool even more.

Moral of the story lads, give your wastegate arms a good old pushing and a pulling to check that they aren't sticking open a bit. in hindsight, it makes perfect sense...

Thanks for the comment anyway

Greg
