Hi all

Firstly sorry if this should be posted in another part of the forum, i'll move it if needed.

We’ve got a black Landy freelander convertible, 04-06 that is fast approaching the end of it’s life. It’s been an absolutely solid car for 7 years or so with no work needed and passed MOT’s each year no issue. However she’s started leaking during heavy rain (a bit of research says that might be an easy fix) and the clutch is really going with hardly any pull on it, bit hairy uphill at times! It’s also diesel and so not cheap to drive in and out of central London everyday which my other half does for work (Chelsea tractor )

So we’ve sadly taken the decision to get a new car and sell the landy. Webuyanycar have offered 700 for it but will doubtlessly chop that down to 500 or below and before we took the easy dollar I wanted to ask if anyone thinks it’s worth selling privately? I know there’s a lot of love for old landys out there and for the right person, who has a garage or the time to invest this could be a great project, plus it goes to a good home.

What’s everybody’s thoughts? Is it worth putting a bit of time in and selling it privately or do these models not attract the enthusiasts?

Thanks
Elliot

Cannot say Ive ever seen a convertible one.
But I’m no Freelanderer

If it was just a car you’d take the cash, you obviously want it to go to a good home?

Yep, exactly. It would just be nice to see it kept going. It's been such a good, reliable car. But if its not of any real interest then we'll bite the bullet!

Welcome to lz ;)
Take what you can get for it there's no value in them, my mate sold one last week for 260 squids.
Thanks mate, friendly bunch! Jeeze, 260 is very low! But fair play, if there's no real value in them then we'll take what we can. Thanks for the reply and honest answer.

Lots of peeps out there who will buy it. Clutch change in a garage is somewhere around £700 if the full job is done. Sadly that puts a lot of older cars like FL1's oft the road. But there is still a viable market for Freelander 1's. It needs a few age related fixes but not eggspensive to do. If it were a D3/4 or rr sport or rr L322 then it would be well fuked and need many many thousands spent on it to get it through an mot. Fuked hair suspension... worm out engine/gearbox at 100k miles... So in comparison the Freelander 1 is the cheaper betterer choice.

Thanks hippo, really useful info there. Seems like the cost of the clutch outweighs the value so its a labour of love. So Unless we can find that loving buyer we'll be sending Brienne of Tarth (my other half names cars ) off to car purgatory (webuyanycar). Thanks for the help.
