ROFL.

I didn't even make it home from where I bought it! Stopped for fuel, barely started again and just made it home

^^^ mine is still like this, everyday is an adventure. No threads on what I did in beggining...just read yours! :):D
Why you think I don’t go far. First time I worked out how to open the filler cap without a metal wedge it wouldn’t leave the fuel station :D
Is good lately though...no nonsense for months...will change when weather warms most probs :(

No, they only fail when cold and wet or you're in a precarious position. The Green Oval Goblin is a total bar-steward.

Point is they are a PITA to maintain.
Is half the fun of these vehicles though. If you’ve got a good one then it’s no bother, if you have other things to sort on it is different.
That’s why I ditched mine. Now I know more about it is different. 2nd Hand coils are cheap as mostly go on scrappers ready to be killed off.
Maintenance is mostly easy, trouble with the EAS is that it's out of sight and out of mind and not included in the maintenance schedule.

Well, the thing is that common problems on forums distort things by getting all the attention - for instance, you don't see reports of extensive rebuilds of P38 bodies due to rust - or reports of the rear end of the chassis rotting away before your eyes - compare these examples with D1's and D2's .......

I saw someone else mention that the P38s are not known for corrosion problems.

Is that because most of them never saw much offroad use in their early days compared to the Discoverys?

The V8 D2 would ideally be my preferred choice out of the two types. The problem is that V8 D2s seem to be advertised from £6k upwards. I would not pay that sort of money for something nearly 20 years old.

Seems to be the metal that was used in their construction plus the rust-proofing. Oddly enough the later ones seem to suffer more. It isn't just P38s, there was a sweet-spot in antirusting measures around 1994-1998.

Hello. im constantly reading about troublesome P38s. Im actually a Series nut but parked up in amongst my collection of old leafsprungs is my 4.6HSE P38. I was very lucky to buy it off my Uncle who was the sole owner and the car has been pretty much garaged and wet nursed all its life. Shes complely original and everything works perfectly. Ill take her out on a whim, fill her up with petrol and have lovely day wafting around the contryside on Air. Just wanted to spread the love man, of my 222HP 4.6HSE. Might even take her out today for a spin.
HNY!!
Sorry its a bit OT.

Terry
