On my p38 diesel (year 2000 latest model with egr) I have a fault code 33.
Is there anybody who knows this code?

(code with the resistor on the obd connector. flashing the check engine light)

What are you using to get the code. When does the check lamp flash? Resistor as far as i am aware was only fitted to diesel models around 1995 to stop battery drain. Can't think why a 2000 model has one fitted.

oh you can read the bosch edc fault codes on 2 ways.
1) with diagnostic equipment like blackbox faultmate
2) Using the "flashing" check engine light method.

I used the flashing check engine. This gives error code 33 (flash 2 times 3)

for your information I use faultmate, it gives undefined values and not a failure, but faultmate is not working good on later diesels

Good you will be able to sort it then code 33 means nothing to me. Faultmate should work on all P38 diesels i suggest you find out why it's not working.

also not to me. There is a complete list of faultcodes available, but 33 is not listed......

Maybe it doesn't exist. Find out what is wrong with the faultmate and sort that out it is all you should need. What is wrong with the car?

sorry press enter to quick. I mean the internal diagnostic has nothing to do with faultmate. It is independent and separate

wel I have the error code 33.........
I reset the error codes but fault code 33 is coming back after a while. It is not the start code or end code. that is 12.

I am thinking it could be related to egr . but that is just a thought. (because this is one of the latest models with egr and may be not in the fault code list)

sorry I cannot help, mine is pre egr. thought they can be disconnected. Put in your location, someone may be close with other diagnostics:)

There is no fault code 33 listed for the M51 engine. Get your faultmate working that will tell you if you have any problems. BMW variants had EU level 2 feedback EGR long before Land rover introduced it. If BMW don't list it for the M51 it does not exist. I have asked this before but got no answer. Is the car running ok, if so why are you searching for problems? If it's not running ok what is wrong with it?

Just throwing this out there.. But if your trucks running badly and fault code 33 only applys to petrol p38s could your ECU be thinking it's running a petrol p38 instead of a diesel?? Just a thought..

Flash codes come direct from the EDC, nothing to do with BECM settings for petrol/diesel/
OP, PM me with an email address and I'll send you the full list of flash codes.

Code 33 applies to BMW petrol engine NOT Rover petrol engines.

I have the complete fault code list. so i saw 33 is not listed. I search the web for bmw and opel, but could not find it also. It looks like it is p38...... I thought just askon the forum. may be somebody saw this before and know what 33 is........ i check several times after a reset if it was real 33.

About faultmate. I have this. it is not given a specific fault. yes the "adacadabra" when the fault is not recognised.

invalid fault invalid value, fault logged ,intermittent (rpm=34, watertemp=80) occurences =5
So faultmate is not helping.

the car is not running bad. but i just want to know where it comes from.

for the fans of faultmate. it is a nice product, however for a p38 dse it is not usefull. there are many errors in it. Before i make a list with errors for the dse. many values are not correct or measured. blackbox is not intend to look for it, because old and to less diesels available. For the ones who wants to know i can make a list, but is it not for this forum item

The flash code list I have is for the P38.
Not found any problems with Faultmate that have not been corrected by BBS when I informed them.
