How to make one of these

So i think these are pretty cool. What can I say, ergonomic organisation really gets me going. Problem is they're rather expensive...

How easy would it be to knock one of these up? I don't really know anything about working with plastics.

Can you buy sheets of plastic that you can heat with something simple like a hair dryer and then mould them over a template?

any other tips for making one of these?

could easily knock something "similar" up using my vac former i guess. But the zip would be a pain, you could have a hinge with a simple latch lock or something.

That website does baffle me sometimes. Some things are well priced others like that seem like an enourmous rip off!! To me that looks like a tarted up CD carrier!

I suppose you could design one yourself and have it 3D printed

and besides, this sort of design wouldnt lend itself much to 3d printing, it would bring no benefit.

vacuum forming would form the upper and lower case components and pop rivet on some hinges and a latch. JD!

MUD UK are out to make money fair enough, however some of the stuff they sell is marked up waaayyyy to much.

I have sourced many of the items they sell for just a few pounds for what they sell for over a tenner. I appreciate overheads etc etc blah blah blah. But common, we live in the world of the internet where you can search for anythign you want over the internet.

Fair point, vaccum forming would be much better....

Mark up on some is insane, my favourite is the side demisters. £150 or so for something you could do yourself with some plastic pipe and a drill.

Make it in fibre glass - 2 parts, incorporate the hinge and the zip too, it could be bonded in.

Then flock it.

Beer tokens should be an actual thing. You go online buy tokens for various pubs which lets you use them at pubs that accept them.

what former do you have?

do you use proper stuff or random plastic?

you tried the diy ones which are vacuums with a box?

what do you usually make your models out of?

I dont have any formers for something like this, it would have to be fabricated. Id make a former out of some decent wood.

I would use abs plastic or perhaps a polypropelene, it depends what your after.

My Vac former is a DIY one, but its very large!
