beginners air rifle

Hey guys, i know some of you lot are into your shooting.

Im after my first air rifle, preferably pre charged but happy for a spring if its the right price.

anyone got one going? Is for disposing of the odd vermin etc

He's bought a farm as far as I'm aware, and if you have bought one (from memory) don't bother with an air rifle. A proper .22 rf with a moderator will be just as quiet and much more effective.

However if you are set on an air rifle, buy cheap buy twice or many more times. Buy a decent one if you plan on using it for vermin on the farm, something like a Theoben or CZ or if money will allow a Daystate AirWolf as far as PCP rifles go, if you go springer you cant really go wrong with a Weirauch HW97k, heavy, german built, underlever design but they pack a punch! I used to have one but got rid of it earlier in the year due to lack of use, much prefer my 12g shotgun

iff you want good guns on a low budget look up bsa (lightning) and gamo(big cat) {both around 250}.youl have to get snap barrels if you want to spend little and get good accuracy and power.

i had a smk b2 cheap as chips at 45 quids and brill for the price but i think the smk qb78 is only a 100-120ish and is pre charged. there is questioning on the quality and build, and accuracy of the smks

Second hand HW97k is better bet, much more powerful than a Gamo Shadow, my mates got one of them and the HK was measuring up at a full 12ft/lb but his was way under. His was new and mine was a few years old

FAC air rifles are nice 20-30 ft/lb.. used to be kits before all the laws came into force many moons ago

Buy a reasonable quality air rifle, a weihrauch or air arms, look after it, last for ever, PCP is a good option, but I prefer the simplicity ( because I'm simple ) of a springer. As the doc says a decent rim fire would be even better, providing you can get an FAC

been offered a tidy air arms s400 with loads of goodies for a fair price.

I dont want a "proper" firearm to be honest as i just dont want the hassle. also I have kids and an airrifle is dangerous enough, let alone something else.

It will only be used to take care of the odd rabbit or rat etc. Aside from anything i just like the skill of shooting. Used to love being down the ranges

i also find it rather enjoyable taking a weapon apart and rebuilding it, cleaning and lubricating it so it all works like it was intended too.

its already got some ... multi barrelled thing on it... whatever it is.. i thought it looked quite nice anyway!

Just need to somehow persuade the mrs that i "need" it

I tried to persuade her that we "needed" the new telly i bought the other day...didnt work very well and have since found we "needed" horse riding lessons, a new bed, an xbox game and some other ****e that i didnt want to buy.... wimmins revenge is harsh!

European rifles are limitedto 10lbs, uk go to 12lbs, s check when you buy, R/r on f/c is better and cheaper!

Pumping up a PCP is bloody hard work, refilling from a bottle is best but extra expense. PCP's that are not used very often usually devepop leaks and a new seal kit and a rebuild will be required.
My advice is you'd be better off with a springer for what you want an airgun for.

If not a good quality PCP will have seals that should be good for a few years between rebuilds, buying a large scuba tank and refilling from that is a good way to go about it. Fill at scuba shop then fill at home
