It may well be, when it's dry. But as it doesn't like getting wet, it's hardly going to become the be all and end all of off road vehicles is it? No matter how capable it is.

I did manage to somewhat waterproof a becm a few years back so the range rover could go on one of these Paris Daker trips.
I refitted the becm to the underside of the roof in the boot.
The best method is to look after your vehicle in the first place, & i'll start you off with an easy one, silicon spray all your door, boot & bonnet seals. This use to be a servicable item but i don't know any garage that does it now.

People who think they are going to used a P38 for the same off roading of which the Series, Defender, Discos and Classics are capable is going to get a very big shock. And lots of heartbreak. It's designed for a rich farmer to drive up a bumpy track now and again preferably a dry one. Or through the occasional puddle as long as it's not too deep.
I thought that it was aimed at the US market where road surfaces might not be perfect but are well drained.

This would be my feeling but I'm sure some people on here had the heater o-rings or similar fail and cause the flood? Assuming that was the main risk I did wonder if you could build a little dam across the car just in front of it in case this happened? Not sure how much clearance there is to the underside of the seat but a wall around it couldn't hurt, could it?
Computer fan for cooling a nice idea.

In terms of cooling fans, BMW use a small fan in their electronics boxes. Has the abilty to attach a flexible duct to it as well which may be usefull to keep things quiet. If you where really clever and your air con worked you could use it to duct air conditioned and therefore dehumidified air into it. Like this

A little dam would stop a volume of water flowing into the BECM from a rainwater or "O" ring leak but it would not stop condensation. If the carpets are just damp and you get condensation on the inside of the windows when the car is parked, you will also be in danger of getting condensation inside the BECM, that's the killer.
A P38 used every day with the aircon on is much less likely to have problems than one used occasionally, especially if the aircon is not used.

Sorry, when you say air con don't you mean heaters as the air con is used for keeping car cool on hot days, ie summer so used rarely, especially in my case as I've disconnected belt .

No, I mean aircon. It dehumidifies the air, ideal for keeping the windows fog free in winter and in wet weather.

So it's winter your windows are misted and your putting on the sir con yea right , when the air con can even caus foggy ness of front screen

Only on start up, the air is cooled and dried by the aircon and then heated by the heater matrix. The initial fog is just water from blocked drains or a little residual in the heat exchanger compartment which collects after you stop,

Many vehicles when you switch on the "defog" mode, switch on the A/C as well to dry the air.
