well after filling the tank with fool , a few primes on the hand pump to fill the bowl with petrol, setting the plugs and distributor, a rough setting of the carb,( considering i had never run it since the full rebuild, and it had not run for the past 20+ years) i charged a battery and connected it all up , went to get a posh starter button out of my tool box ( read this as shorted the solonoid out with a spanner) cranked over for three or four seconds and brummmmmmmmmmmmmmm away it went, sweet as a nut, then it died, ..............................

after a few mins of head scratching, i tipped a shot of fuel down the carb, and it struck up again , .........

off came the carb ... back on the bench, top off and jets out, there was a small build up of ****e from old evaporated fuel in the pin holes in the jets, just enough to stop a proper shot of fuel and air mix, quick blast with the air line and a can of brake cleaner, new set of gaskets and back on the engine,

after 45 mins ****in about, it went first crank, cranked for a split second then fired, has done every time since,

have fitted rad proper tonight, and hoses, least can run it up now with out worrying about cookin it ,

Looking better than when I last saw it, will you be ready for the big day?? Hope to see it running next time I am up north.

Reading this has made me want go get on with my rangy, I know that runs as I ran it out of petrol last week!!

See you soon

,
if i get the time to get stuck in over new year cant see why it wont be ready so am gunna keep ploddin on with it , catch yers later

i noticed that kink as well, also it wont have any flex going to the fuel pump and will leak with the engine movement

haha, well spotted, but its the photo that makes it look kinked, , i made the pipes up then t- cut them to make tham look half presentable, as i polished them after ther is the dull copper under the thermos housing i couldnt get to and the shiny coming away from it, making it look flat !! i have taken another picture so will load it on later , if it was kinked it wouldnt of been fitted , trust me ;)

Been following the rebuild for about the last 10 months in the background, thought i would post up and say nice job, great write up thanks and keep it comming I am learning loads for if/when i finally get a 2a station wagon. PS alloy wheel cleaner will shine up copper with a quick wipe from a cloth, think it has caustic soda or similar in so best not get it everywhere.

Is the fuel pipe standard brake pipe?

its 8mm copper and 8mm compression fittings, slight adapting of the carb allows straight connection , using the bsp female threads on the fuel pump and a straigh compression coupler with one nut and olive removed and used as an adapter , the same stuff used in gas and oil boilers , so off the shelf at local plumbers ,

Don't want to teach you how to suck eggs......
