This is a new direction to the Devon pub meet thread here:

Devon Pub Meet

As we have some nice folks in Cornwall, Dorset, Devon & Somerset it became apparent to sort something out for everyone in the South West.

Nothing was decided on, a few ideas appeared including BBQ, Camping over night, PaynPlay, Family areas etc.

So put on your thinking caps, lets get an idea of location for everyone and what you want, I'm free for the rest of the year and I'm happy to arrange it all.

There are a couple of 'private' off road sites in the area, one in Tiverton and one in Bampton that can be hired for Pay n Play type activities. I do not have contact details but someone else may know more.

I know that they are used by the AWDC among others.

We didn't get much from this, the other thread was more popular it seems over the period of time and summer is nearly over, so i'm thinking of just a small get together for a few lanes or summat?

Hi Paul

I think that when it was a 'Devon' meet it was local and that was attractive to those in Devon, but then it started to grow to include other areas and became a 'Regional' rather than local meet. Personally I think you should stick with a 'Devon' meet, somewhere central, and then if others from outside the area want to come along they know where we will be :D

Just my penny's worth :5bcheers2:

Good point DTd5, although even if it becomes a regional meet, it's likely to be in Devon as we're central.

Looking at areas around Dartmoor atm, central and easily accessible from most directions, just looking for a pub and some lanes or p&p area.

Thinking about this during the week i took the day out today having a good look around the area for some decent lanes and took a trip over to the Pay n Play in Bovey Tracey.

The area for the meet is still undecided as yet, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and put an idea out there, something which I'd been talking about before.

Firstly I'm working on a 1-2 hour trip around some lanes in the area i live, the reason for this is i know where they are and can be of some assistance. I spent some time working on the ins n outs of the lanes and planning a route and so far have apprx 1/2 of it mapped out with lanes.

Secondly i took an hour out to go over to the pay n play in Bovey Tracey, met Keith who runs it, and went for a trip around the standard part of the course.
My Landy has some AT grabber 2's, other than that it's a stock set up, so we took a drive around the course with Keith onboard giving me some tips and telling me what was what elsewhere on the course.
The standard course takes about 30 mins to drive around and includes bomb holes, door sill depth puddles and 2-3 drops ( one of them is pretty big for a newcomer! ). Plenty of mud, water and twists n turns to keep you entertained and costs a £5 for a run.

The fun can really begin when you start doing the parts of the course that require some skill as well as equipment. Certain parts are labeled ' winch only ', ie you don't do them without one as it's pretty certain you'll get stuck, some are pretty technical twisting slopes and some just look nigh on impossible, and one is a gearstick level water hole.

With a group of us, you can have some real fun, the whole track will be open to you, so you can go where you like if you pay for a day's play ( £25 ). There are some rules due to the whole area surrounding a local paint balling park, but other than that, Keith says as long as you follow the track and don't drive through young trees, the place is pretty much open.

Cost for the P&P is:

£5 for one run around the course ( standard takes 30 mins )

£15 for half a day ( standard runs plus a few of the more difficult areas )

£25 for a full day (10am till 3pm ) The whole course is open, take as long as you like on whatever you bit you like, some areas could be done fairly quickly, but you could end up trying to get out of some parts for an hour or so.

To sum up, the location is here:

Bovey Tracey - Google Maps

The lanes will be planned around this area here:

torbay - Google Maps

and to the North West is the moors :D

The Pay & Play has a Landy dealership ( Brookwells.co.uk ) nearby + Trago Mills.

I'll load up with plenty of Bacon, Baps, Tea n Coffee etc to keep everyone fed and warm but there's plenty of places around to grab food etc.

Like it was said on the other thread this may not be what everyone wants, some may be coming in non off road vehicles, if so then we can ditch the P&P and go for a local pub meal/drink and maybe some lanes later if anyone wants to.

All i can do is put the idea out there, if you've got another idea, feel free to add. I'll continue to map the lanes route out and may try and rope Vagrent into coming with me to test it out ;)

Cheers

Wow you been busy today:D
I have been a little poorly today
I've not been to the trago track and would love a go:D

Let's put some names to this:

PaulWilde
Vagrent
Treworgey 90
Dom-300TDi
DTd5 (confirm?)

Feel free to add your name to the first idea, i'll work on a second idea for those who are looking for maybe lanes and a meet for a drink n chat.

I'd come as I only live 45 mins away. Though, it's a question of whether or not I wanna get laughed at with my hippo. It's bad enough on here!

Before you go, I'd suggest ringing them up to confirm that they're definitely going to be open. I know of a few people who have turned up, only to find that they were closed, even on a Sunday!

He has refused entry to stock Freelanders, purely because you won't get round the course and i don't think it's a case of being rude, just common sense ;) If you still want to come though, i'm sure someone will be happy to have you in their vehicle for the course, the more the merrier ;)

Once we get further into the numbers and the day planned i'll ring him to get a confirmation for numbers etc, i believe the limit is 15 on the course at one time
