    Out of ideas???

How tense are the belts when its all fitted back together? If there is a lot of play then your springs probably aren't doing their job?

    Electrics permanently on

Sounds like someone has just wired any new bits straight to the isolator instead of through the ignition key. Its not a problem unless you have an alarm that is triggered by voltage drop because if you have to kill everything when you leave the car there will be no voltage drop....

    Rear Diff - 300Tdi 110

THanks for the reply Gents and thanks for the offer Jai. I'm near snetterton race track, did you find out what type of axle it was? So far the rear prop joiunt and half shafts have been diagnosed, that might sort most of the problem but it might not be the end of it....

    Rear Diff - 300Tdi 110

The transmission sounds like a washing machine filled with rocks, and I'm hoping the front diff is the cause because I have a recon'd one ready to go in but if its the rear I've been told they can't be replaced on the 300Tdi 110 and I'll need to replace the whole axle assembly. Of course I've...

    Front Prop shaft

So I was changing the oil yesterday and lying there on my back waiting for it to finish draining I was looking around at bushes and bulkhead, just generally having a nosy. I gave the front prop a twist expecting it to turn a tiny bit but it revolved at least half a turn. The car was in neutral...

    I have a Dilema

if shes so bothered about wasted space ask the missus why she needs forty pillows and cushions on the bed during the day which all get tossed on the floor overnight, only to have to spend twenty minutes putting them back in the morning! Oh hang on, that would be my missus

What spares do you take in case of breakdown??

zips ties for little things, gaffer tape for big things

    Am I imagining it?

so its not the wheel nuts or bearings, and I can't see a problem with any of the bushes except they are not poly and the Lump has 170 k on the clock. Its not conceivable they haven't been changed before now but maybe they are just getting baggy.....it happens to everything over a certain age.

    Am I imagining it?

As I corner my 300tdi 110 one way to the left, (or anti clockwise for those of you watching in black and white) every so often there is the sensation the thing moved a couple of inches to the outside. I've tried to repeat it and had some success but can't replicate it every time. If I hold a...

    On another note.....

in reverse order, shop boy, truck roof assembler/welder, mechanical design engineer, student (them were the days...), extraction engineer, automotive engineer, call centre jerk off, IT project manager. How the hell do 25 years go by that quick?

    Relay or Switch? Bet now......

and the winner is.....the switch. Once it was of it was easy to see where the contacts had melted and insulated themselves. Changing the switch was easy, steering column plastics off, steering wheel off, unfasten other switches from the mounting plate (no need to disconnect them) unplug...

    Relay or Switch? Bet now......

The new relay arrived yesterday, I swapped em over and the fault is still there. The switch is in the post and is looking like the cause. If its not the switch I'm thinking there must be a short or a break somewhere and that will be a ball ache to find....please be the switch, please be the...

    Relay or Switch? Bet now......

Its a 94 M defender 300TDI and I've order both the relay and the switch. I'll change the relay and test again then do the switch any way cos I bent the bugger a bit with some percussive maintenance last night. I'll post again with the result.

    Relay or Switch? Bet now......

hang on, maybe I've not been clear with the fault. The side lights work but no dipped headlights at all no matter what switch position I select. the main beams (and the dipped bulb) come on if I pull the flasher stalk back. Nothing if I push the full beam stalk forward. Even if I yank the dim...
  16. B

    Relay or Switch? Bet now......

and just let the switch do the work or fit another relay for the main beam?
  17. B

    Relay or Switch? Bet now......

So the side lights work, the headlights don't but only on dipped. Main beam works on the "flash" but not the normal main beam switch position. The normal position contacts don't meet and it looks a little melted? Multi tester results. 12V in and out of the headlamp relay. 12V in and out of the...

    Lady problems

sounds like the heater matrix +1 Its a bit of a pig to get out but get the bonnet off, disconnect a few pipes, juggle the matrix box around and then 20 odd screws later you'll have a busted matrix in your hand. Paddock do a good replacement and its not to costly.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Drove it 10 miles with the old clutchless gear change (fine until the little hill start) to Peter Scotts who replaced the clutch slave cylinder for me and he's back on the road. Hurrah!

    defender 300 tdi overheating problem

I had this and it was the heater matrix that had ruptured and the water was dissappearing from inside there. Frig'd a join in the input/output pipes to get me home and ordered a new one from Paddock. Easy fix
