    L322 M62 Engine

G'day, I'm looking at buying a L322 petrol Rangie, but have read a few things about VANOS and timing chain/guide issues. Could someone explain what the issues are, please? Do you have to change out the timing chain and guides as well as the VANOS units when doing the VANOS repair?? Also, can...

    Diesel 'missing'

My 2.25 diesel seems to 'miss' when idling every 5 seconds or so. The injectors have been overhauled and the lift pump is new. A friend thinks it's timing, but I don't have the special tools for the scientific method. Is there a 'bloke in his shed' method of setting the timing...

    No indicators

Still having a problem with my indicators. Started with the fuse blowing, which I replaced a few times, whilst ignoring the real problem. This eventually ended with no indicators working. I've just received a box of spares and have started working my way through the problem. New...

    Adjusting the Clutch

I've just had a new clutch fitted and the 'bite' point is now near the top of the pedal. Is that normal? After fitting a new clutch, are there any adjustments that need to be made? Just don't want to the new clutch to be cactus after a couple of weeks. Cheers

    2.25 diesel high temp

My diesel runs close to the red on the temperature gauge. I've put a new thermostat in, flushed the radiator, new sender and still the gauge is in the red. I had the bright idea (doh!) of measuring the temperature of the coolant at the top of the rad and found it to be 75 ish degrees...

    Slipping Clutch

Went for a bit of a drive along the beach today, and noticed my clutch was slipping. Caused me to get bogged in the end. Also, the clutch pedal now has a habit of not returning when depressed to the floor. Sometimes it comes back, but if it does, I need to put my foot under it to lift it...

    Diesel Hard to Start

OK, been a while since I've been here but now I've got another problem....sorry, I meant challenge. My 2.25 diesel had been left un started for a few months (been away working) and it was a B'stard to start. In this case the fuel seemed to need priming and eventually the old girl coughed...

    Power Loss

I've got a short wheel base 2.25 diesel that seems to lose power the longer I drive it. Yeah, I know they're not that powerful to start with! Anyways during longer trips it takes longer and longer to get back up to 80 kph after slowing down, for say a round about, the further into the...

    Slipping Clutch

With fear of asking a silly question............. My clutch seems to slip, but only when the engine is hot?? This morning I drove to my mates place (about 60 klms) and all was well. We did a bit of work on the steering system and then I drove back. About half way home I noticed that I...

    Diesel Priming

Probably been talked to death, but I remember reading that someone suggested putting the old girl in 2nd or 3rd and being towed by a sympathetic friend. Does that really work? If so, how much bleeding do you need to do before starting the tow? (I've just given mine a birthday. All filters...

    Diesel distributor pump filter

I've been giving the Landie the once over and read somewhere that there is a filter on the inlet side of the distributor fuel pump. So, I removed it to give it a clean and now I can't remember which way it goes back together  I will post a pic later of the bits that came out (filter...

    Engine thermosat

Another problem, err I mean challenge. My 2.25 (1979) diesel is running hot according to the temperature gauge. It doesn't smell hot, but I'd like to make sure everything is OK. I read somewhere that there are different thermostats, and I wondering which one I should have fitted (as...

Just wondering if there is an alternative to removing the filler plugs to check the levels? My plugs are stuck fast  Also can the plugs be changed from the 'square head' to either the torx type or recessed 1/2 inch drive type.......or is there a tool that I need to sell the kids for...
