Hi all, Hope someone can help with this problem. I have a Disco 2 TD5, I bought a Hawkeye which works fine on my mates TD5 but not on mine. Traced the problem to the diagnostic socket which is not wired as it should be according to Haynes and Rave. The wires leading to the socket have a label on them saying landrover main harness passed 1998. On the socket I have the purple, pink and 2 black wires to the correct pins, I dont have a red but someone said that is not fitted to all models but I have a grey with pink trace wire on pin number 2 which is not in any wiring diagram. All I get on the Hawkeye when trying to read anything is "data link error". Can anyone shed any light on this problem or have an idea how to fix it.
Thanks
Simon

Maybe knowing what year your TD5 is might help. Don't forget there are 2 wiring looms. An early one and a late one. There are differences in things like throttle potentiometer etc.

"data link error" message is saying you that the scanner can't comunicate with the systems......my guess is that the connection between pin7 of the diagnostic socket and pin15 of C0286 header(the pink wire) is interrupted.

First of all check if u have good earth on pins 4 and 5 of the DLC then trace a direct wire from pin 7 to pin 15 of the header.......In RAVE u can see the disposal of pins in "connector views"....check also if the wires are connected to the the correct pins.

I have tried connecting pin 7 directly to 15 on the header but that didnt make any difference

....then u have to go further to check all connections(as i can see u are quite familiar with electric diagrams)......are u sure there is no bad contact within the diagnostic socket?

I will go back and check the socket connection make sure the pins are all in contact and check the earths because I didn't check those
