Hi,
Im after a set of 5x 16' Freelander rims for my 2003 TD4, preferably the 5 spoke alloy variety. Not fussed if from earlier models as will place 5mm spacers to clear the brake calipers.
In return i can offer 5x 17' 5 spoke alloys with legal Michelin tyres and no major marks present on the wheels.
Will drive to you within reasonable distance from Milton Keynes

Any pics of your wheels? My dad is interested in changing his 16" for 17" wheels. Can't remember which design his are but will get a pic for you. And we're only up the road from MK!

Apologies all, they maybe 6 and i've lost the ability to count..... so ill post a pic in the next day or so when im not at work, so we can all count together

Oooh 17" Freedom's! Someone's going to pick up a bargain here! What are you fitting to your 16's? AT's :)?

I'm sure that some folks have changed to 16" rims because they didn't know that Falken make decent A/Ts - WildPeak 215/60 17"

Spot on the right size to replace the 225/55 17" original LR size

Cost around £100 a corner. I'm thinking of getting a set when my Conti4X4Contacts wear out.

Falken Tyres / SUV 4x4 / Falken AT01 WildPeak AT Falken AT 01 - 215/60 R17 96H TL Fuel Eff.: E Wet Grip: F NoiseClass: 3 Noise: 73dB £99.70 SUV Tyres - 4x4 Tyres - All Terrain Tyres - Off Road Tyres - 17" R17" - 215/60/17, 215/60R17

They only have a load index of 96. Don't Freelanders need to have a load index of 98 or more?

I don't see any problem as the 15" wheels on some Freelanders have 195/80 tyres which have a 96 index too.

A 96 index can carry 710Kg so 1420 max axle load.

The max rear axle load permitted on a Freelander is 1120kg so a tyre with a Load Index of 88 would be permissable, in theory.

So they are well in excess of the vehicles carrying capacity.

They might be ok if you simply look at the actual load capacity I guess although LR fitted 98 LI from the factory for a reason rather than using a 96 LI.
I'm just thinking about the insurance aspect where replacement tyres must be at least the same speed and load index of those originally fitted. Insurance company's will try and get out of paying by whatever means they have to hand tyres included!!

Well I can't agrue that most, if not all, Insurance companies are a shower of responsability-dodging bar-stewards.

Best to check with them before fitting anything different. I admit to checking with mine about fitting 235/55 17 99Ws instead of the lesser rated originals. They weren't interested - but I insisted they replied in writing that it would be OK.
