continuing saga of hg failure

Garage now taken heads orf - no signs of a problem - it all looks hunky dory - BUT LR garage (who refused to do job) say DEFINATELY exhaust gases on water - so wot can it be? Only thing found so far is thermostat pipes cracked.

Heads being sent for pressure test etc to be on safe side (i dont wanna do this all over agin)

normally on the V6 if the hg's have gone, you can't really see it cos of the type of gasket, Td5 disco is the same, you just have to put it together and see, as you're having the heads pressure tested, at least if they come back ok you know its the head gaskets, best bet though would be to get rid of it once this has been done

Things are starting to move (I hope)

Am trying to get a QED remote thermostat to help reduce thermal shock syndrome to KV6 (hasnt bin tried on one yet;))

Also will fit remote oil cooler and extra gearbox cooler.

Can yuz guys give me any pointers as to where I can get either or both of thse items; and have you tried them?

There are few on ebay...or check this http://www.autoanything.com/coolers/20A50680A1.aspx
Will you let us know how do you go with remote oil cooler and autobox oil cooler?! pleeaseeee...:)
I seriously thinking to put one as well but still no time to do it, not even to check if there is space infront of rad.

thanks Dearot - but postage from the states wud be a bit pricey.

I just bin told the V6 ALREADY HAS an oil cooler. Apparently its bolted onto t'side of engine - has coolant flowing thro outer & oil thro inner - so it transfers heat from oil into coolant! Just wot yu need - not.

any comments?

exactly.it transfer the heat to coolant. that's why adding an extra engine oil cooller would help engine to cool down a bit and less heat transfer to coolant. not forget heat from autobox too.

YIPPEE!

warranty peeps have agreed to cof up for thermo bits & HGF.
wont pay for head porosity check & skimmin, but

YIPPEE!

thank yu CD, Minge, Mondeo, Repgom and anyone else for all ya help.

q is will it happen agin?

answers on a post card plse...

It will fail again as my V6 did, but then it burnt down.

Run a search for old threads "Burnt out Freelander"

Just avoid the petrol engines they always fail.

And the oil cooler is a charge cooler i.e. oil to water cooler.

Glad the letter worked matey !!!!!!

Thats 1 hour at cost plus proof reading and alteration ~ Lets say £250+ vat !!!!!!

ONLY JOKING !!!!!:D
