Have just finished reading your thread.... brings back memories of cold late evenings and endless weekends laying under mine on the drive, cutting, grinding, hammering, welding... Thing is I always had to have it on the road again come Monday morning ! You have the right approach, strip the bloody thing to bits and fix the lot !
I used a lot of mild steel sheet to fabricate repair panels.. a couple of bits of angle iron and a vice... you can make most of what's required.

Good luck with the rebuild.:)

Cheers Rusty, unfortunately I don't have the time to fabricate stuff so I have been shopping around for the best and the cheapest panels around. I have till the end of June to get it done but need to get on with it.. Hoping to have the welding done by the end of March then its just the re paint and re build :jaw:

Keep an eye out, you might be able to help me :D,

What colour would you paint the axles and chassis then?? and not black!!

Just bought a set of alloys for her for £40 off flebay.

Thought I might ware out the chunky ones towing the horse trailer about  so these will be sensible summer tarmac tyres...

Spent a couple of hours on the rangy, got the heater box out, the top cover of the gearbox. If I get chance at the weekend I want to get the tunnel off and start getting the gearbox out as it is sold!!

Forgot camera as well and phone battery was flat :(

Found a great Lagoon matalic blue, either that or Monte Carlo Blue, black roof and sills etc. Yellow and orange under carriage though :D

Hello again.. are you still going with the Blue body colour ? If so you could paint the axles and chassis the same colour... broken up by the Black sills and contrasting with the Yellow bit's, hubs, calippers, shocks etc..
You'll only have to buy one type of paint (less cost) and you could even get some pannels done while your at it !! :D

Orrr you could use Orrange.. looks good with Blue.

Sorry if this is bit of a boaring suggestion... I would ave had um painted Black by now !! Cheers.

Like the idea, working on the axle paint at the moment, like the blue idea but keep being drawn back to the orange, think it will look great..

I haven't painted anything yet because it is to cold, i haven't decided what colour, and I haven't bought any paint:D bought some rust proofing primer though, but still to cold!!

Managed to convince my friend who works at JLR pre treating all new Land Rovers before painting to come and help me paint mine so should be factory standard :D:D

Got some nice blue carpet to re carpet the inside of mine so sticking with the blue:D

Got the alloys today and yes they are Smith's wheels, two tyres like new and two need replacing but that can wait.

Dragging the horse box home behind the focus has given me more incentive to get the rangy on the road, struggled like fook to get to 60mph and stay there on the motorway, got a 145hp 2.0ltr petrol so not underpowered. Made it though without blowing the car up :D

Hope to do more this week as the wife wants to take her horse out but with no towing car can't, hopefully that means I won't get moned at for spending to long working on the old girl. Get the grinder out next :D:D

Right, pay day today so ordered my footwells from Paddock Spares, days are getting warmer and longer :D primer turned up yesterday for the chassis so really need to crack on with it. Hope to cut the rest of the bolts holding the tunnel and seat box off tomorrow, get the fuel tank off and the last quarter panel. Shifted the combine as well, the boss was scared I would cover it with sparks and weld spatter :suspicious: oh well, more room to get the FLT in to lift out the gear box:banana:

Another night on the spanners, and day for that :D

Got it stripped all bar 2 parts, Gear box and fuel tank...
