Hi, I find my td4 is struggling to go over 55mph. Is this common?

No, it's not right at all.

I can cruise at 75+ all day long easily.

You need to check - air cleaner, MAF, fuel filter, and also the EGR for build up of crud. PCV upgrade is a good idea too.

Do a few searches on here and come back for more info if you need.

The TD4 is a sound motor and should have no problem in keeping up with the general traffic flow.

Singvogel.

Could do with a bit more info and the symptoms, black smoke, blue smoke, misfire etc. The TD4 is a 100 mph + motor (where legal) so, as Singvogel states, should have no problem cruising well over 70 mph.

mine will do about 115 no problem it used to be 120 but since the big roof rack with big lights on but I hardly ever do that sort of speed my license is worth too much to me

wrote this earlier ....
then saw that the other replies have it covered :)

now posting anyways .. :

ok ..
your previous post mentioned stalling whilst going uphill
was it a case of wrong-gear-by-accident ?

normally .. the td4 has a ton of torque and does not stall easily ..
be as if .. one would have to deliberately try 'n stall it .. type-of-engine ..

i.e. trying to figure if 'stalling' .. 'n struggling to get over 55mph is connected

~~

now the symptom is not enough power to break 55mph easily ..
so .. is that in 5th gear .. ?

how does it perform if foot-down in 4th gear ? ..

does it start to pull harder when the revs go over 2500 ? .. .. or not ..

will it rev past 3000 ? ..

~~

and .. what's the exhaust smoke like ??

http://www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/diesel-engine-smoke.php

~~

suffice to say if it's struggling to pass 55mph ..
engine be out-of-tune .. short on fuel or air .. or both ..

or you have an extremely light foot ..
.. :)

yeah .. as mentioned .. post more symptoms as it will help narrow down potential causes ..

Hey , thanks for all the replys, when I stalkless I was in the wrong gear by accident.

When trying to get over 55mph I tries 4th gear and it didn't help.

On the weekend I put in some wynns injected cleaner for diesel. And within 20 min I was driving down some country lanes and I could get from 40 to 60 in 5th no problem! So I think that's sorted it :)

But I do get a strong smell of diesel when ever I get out the car after driving to work :(
