Strange Noise

I did a few jobs the other day including oil cooler pipes, power steering pipe and glow plugs. All went well but i did notice a few little bubbles and deisel coming from the seat of the nearest (to the front) injector. Driving it home today and up to temperature when i heard a really loud vibration type noise. Didnt feel any vibration but it sounded loud. It was under decelaration (coming off the motorway). On stop it dissapeared. Could it be linked to the leaky injector seat?

Bubbles will be a slight leak on the injector seal washer. Diesel will be from spill pipe leaking and sitting in injector well. It can't leak diesel past injector seal, it has already gone bang when you get enough pressure to cause blow by.

Your right, took the manifold off and when i pulled on the spill pipe the nipple came off with it. The trouble is the injector doesnt seem to want to move. How much pressure can i put on before it strips the thread. Or am i better off sealing up the snapped nipple and running a return from another injector instead. And live with the bubbles!

IMO, living with the bubbles will ultimately lead to the injector being totally un-removeable without breaking it or damaging the head. Wammers will know better than me.
As long as the injector where the nipple broke still has a nipple for leak off, no reason why you can't fit the return to #6 injector in place of the blanking plug:)

There is nothing worse than a snapped nipple, a mate of mine had a similar problem when driving down to work. Ripped his nipple clean off, he had to go to hospital and everything.

No, its snapped off at the base (No 1 injector). But as its the return nipple i was thinking of blanking it off and using the blanked off nipple on No 6 to return. But like you said its only going to get worse. I've soaked it in WD 40 overnight and will buy the right socket tomorrow and give it a go. Just wondering if anyone else has stripped the threads and is it a common problem.

That does sound especially nasty. Unfortunatly i would recommend removing the whole engine and buy another one to be installed as it cannot be repaired.

You need to fit another injector. Or fit a new spill nipple and a new copper washer to the injector or remove and anneal the old one. If you fit a S/H injector make sure you either remove and anneal the old seal washer or fit a new one. Torque to 48 lbft. Nipping up to stop the leak is not the way to go, you won't get any movement and could cause damage trying to do that, injector MUST be backed off first before re torquing. That more than likely won't seal the injector anyway because of the hard washer.
