Hi im new here
I have a Freelander 1 and the rear reversing sensors and reversing light are not working
Im not sure bit i think the tow bar is an aftermarket as its not been used at all .

Any idears please as to where to check first
Bulbs are new in the lights all help greatly received

Could likely be the reverse sensor switch on the gearbox if both have failed - assuming its manual. Or often not replaced after a clutch change (or other reasons for removing the gearbox).

I believe you could test this theory using the HDC. If you enable the HDC it is dormant until you are in 1st or reverse - so you could test to make sure reverse works the same as first.

This theory also has a couple of flaws...

1) The wire to the HDC switch often falls off, so you can't enable HDC.
2) If the 1st gear sensor switch is also faulty....

Been going through my freelander 1 and have found the reversing light switch but no wires to it at all .
Ive gone though the engine bay and cant find a block or any hanging wires at all and was wondering if they would have been wired to the harness and would there be anyway i can find where i may pick up a feed and would this be a resonable fix or problematic
Any Help and advice greatly recived at this time

Sorry miss put in last comment ive found the reversing light switch but no wires to or from it and nothing found in the engine bay
Its a 1.8 petrol 2004
Many Thanks

It's possible that someone has cut them off or pulled them from the harness. It definitely should have a connection to the reverse lights, or they won't come on, also HDC won't work, and it could also fail the MOT, which now includes reverse light checks, but I can't remember from what year that check applies.

Looking at the switches, it appears they are supplied with a short cable that will then plug into the/a loom.

If you have a look at the wiring diagram in the Rave workshop manual, all wiring connectors are numbered.

There is then a section in the manual that gives pictures for all connectors. This enable you to identify their location.

You should be able to identify where that short wire connects.

You need a Windows PC to load and run Rave.

I don't suppose you'll be able to get just the short wire, it may even be manufactured into the switch.

However, the whole thing is only a tenner...
