Got the dreaded slipped liner problem so rather than just change the block I have decided to bite the bullet and do the job properly, including a recon engine, no point in spending £££s and cutting corners, any recommendations on suppliers of recon engines that are not a complete arm and leg.

Speak to Frida - Richard Turners wife at Turner Engineering if you want to do it properly.Look em up on the net.

I think stu and do the whole recon with top hat liners and complete rebuild for about 2.5-3k but dont quote me on that as I dont listen about P38's very well :p it might be cheaper

He is on here as voguese39 tell him John sent you (and he will run a mile :p just kiddin)

Right thanks for that this is where I am at depending on cost:

1) 4.0 top hat block and my heads
2) 4.0 top hat block and performance/stage 1 heads
3) 4.6 top hat block and my heads
2) Performance Stage one 4.6 long engine 220bhp(from V8 Developments)

1 & 2 is a straight swap no problems.

Does combination 3 work as simply a straight swap for my block?

With number 4 will anything else need changing like injectors or ECU.

Any other suggestions?

PM me if you want stus number, he will talk you through your options. tell him I sent you.

He is the man with these , and does alot of p38 engines

Thanks, but at the end of the day he is a professional who makes a living from his knowledge, I would feel a bit of a fraud phoning him and asking him his advice knowing full well I am not going to give him the work as it is already in being stripped, if he volunteers the advice then fair enough.

Think I'd hang on and save up the extra £500,I'm not saying Turners are the only ones that can build a decent v8,its just that you can rely on what they do.I have a customer who spent 30k building a Defender and the engine came out 3 times before we gave up on it and he fitted a s/h runner into. That was shot and I ended up doing a cam and lifters in it just to tide him over. For most people a recon v8 is alot of money - the last thing you want is a problem a month out of warranty....

Oh I didnt realise you had decided on who you are going to get to do it already , sorry mate I thought that what you were asking

Not in a million years am I going to fit a s/h engine, it's more a case of which of the options listed above I can stretch too and will work.

No worries mate. I normaly do the repairs myself but not got much time at the moment and the 110 is in my garage in bits, so when I started getting pressurising and odd over heating, I dropped it into a decent independent locally who discovered the slipped liner. So now I am weighing up my options so I can tell him what I want him to do on Monday.

Am in the same boat at the moment. I bought a top hat block from ACR and rebuild parts, gaskets, shells etc from Island 4x4, Its cost me about £1500 so far.

Steve

Well luckily enough I jumped out of that boat, while joining the garage owner in kicking the mechanic up the arse for jumping to conclusions, it turned out not to be a slipped liner, just a simple head gasket.

if you have a look at my web site it will give you an idea of what i do as for the performance heads plenty of options but getting one right for you is what counts quite happy to offer advise over the phone as longas it is not **** taking and twenty calls a day lol
my engines come with a full twelve month warranty only not appicable if it is for racing
