P38 2000 4.0 LPG Issue

My thoughts.. if the PO was happy how it was/is, can you trust anything he says?

I'll give him a bit of credit tbf.. I bought the landy and then drove my other car home, then got the train back to pick it up and drive home.. But the central locking wasn't working, only the driver door opened so the engine was disabled. The transponder chip from the fob lives in the central dash docket space not in the fob.. He helped me out over the phone as much as he could then came and met me to try a few things.. Turned out all I had to do was take the fob chip from the dash and hold it beside the driver door lock barrel and the central locking kicked in again and the engine started with no probs. He said in the time he had it that only happened once, and likewise I only needed to do that once and its been fine ever since without the fob chip needing to be near the lock barrel door module. He would have kept it but he's got a fleet of cars on his drive, and the reason he had to sell it was cos his wife wasn't able to park it in tight places..just to big of a man's machine for her!!! It's got a ton of receipts for recent work past few months and just had a full engine rebuild so not quite as bad as it seems I guess. Still a bargain in my eyes with all here considering and running good on petrol with good smooth revs and fairly high 15+mpg on petrol which is totally fine to me coming from an x5 e53 4.4 v8.

I'm used to all these fun and games.. I've downsized a collection a little and took a couple of sidesteps.. Its one of my fleet now of 4 cars, 1 motorbike, and a 7.5t lorry (don't ask - it was cheaper than hiring one a couple of months back:eek:) My neighbours love the 1 car per household in the private car park 'rule' I'm slightly breaking :D) in my redemption I don't have the landy parked at my house, I just drive my other car to its away from home parking space and make a swappover to take the landy out!! :eek:;)
I'm a good neighbour deep down haha

Never knew such a bodge job could exist and I'm a real master at bodge jobs, but this is just a step too far!
Think that cable was for some kind of possible police light setup in the front grill.. It connects into the drivers dash with a switch... But then again.. I doubt police would have their connectors and switches wired like this.... (unless it's something to do with the LPG but I don't think it is) View attachment 244199 View attachment 244200

I suspect by the time you've soldered and shrink-wrapped a lot of problems will disappear.

Maybe it had a light-bar? Or Dixie air-horns?
 
Any progress on the wiring?

I've made a couple of crimps to the main solenoid in engine bay but it's still not playing ball. Been away for a week and I hoped to get it running for the 450 mile round trip to Ireland. The drive was pretty good and towed a nice big boat home successfully.. I got the boat 10 metres from its parking spot back home and a radiator hose blew on me..just glad it happened in the yard and not on the windy narrow roads I was driving. Yesterday I fixed the hose and topped up and bled the system.. Only to have the central locking not work when I went to pick it up to drive the 1km or so home. I applied for the Eka code about 1 week and a half ago but the main landy factory has been closed until today, unfortunately the main landy dealer and factory system is down after a system update so stuck with no Eka code and they'll have a big backlog from the holiday they were on. My only hope today is to try the 1515 Eka or wait until the main factory is back online and can provide the code. Last time this happened I held the transponder chip beside the door and it kicked the central locking back into business, however this time its just not working. Damn I wish I had a nanocom for times like this :'( I thought by now China would have made a nanocom clone similar to every other obd like device, like delphi etc.. £450 is quite steep for a little diagnostic box. If anybody is near Glasgow with a nanocom give me a shout ;)
 
What was the message if any on the cluster?
Have you tried re-sync by turning and pressing the corresponding button.

It just says engine disabled, as the central locking isn't unlocking all doors just the drivers door so the immobiliser is still active. It also says press remote button.
This isn't possible as the keyfob electrics 'live' in the small space above the heater control panel in the centre console.
Don't ask me why but that's where they have lived for the past 2 owners.
And the keyfob electrics need refurbished so can't even push the button on the keyfob chip. The transponder chip itself doesn't use the battery, as gets its charge from the rf receiver. Last time this happened I took the keyfob chip and held it beside the drivers door when turning the key and it worked after one or a few times. I've tried it countless times last night and it didn't activate the central locking and disable the immobiliser. The key would only open the driver door but not disable the immobiliser. I'm waiting to buy a new keyfob or get it repaired but I need to get the car moved today as its blocking access in the yard. Going to try some contact cleaner today in next hour / silicone the lock barrel / actuator / microswitch. And fingers crossed it will do something today. Also praying the Eka 1515 might well do something.
 
Dont expect 1515 to work:(. Have you looked in your handbook, as its only a little card that the EKA is on.

Get a new/fixed fob sorted ASAP, Please:). it will save you a whole lot of grief. Also maybe you are starting to suffer door lock micro switch issues as you say:(.

No really, they were to tight too sort things properly simple , as is noted by your LPG wiring. A "mechanic" friend said well you just do this and it will be fine, Bollocks:D.
I expect you will be finding a few more surprises along your journey.

Just my luck, it opened first time on the key 1 minute ago! I tried for 2 hours last night, walked home in the ****ing rain at 11pm.. Carried a ton of supplies along today... 8kg capacitor jumpstarter, sprays, fluids.. The lot. This thing has a damn mind of its own :eek: ahh well at least I'm in and good to drive it home now... Or more like, to its away from home parking space ;)
