Can anyone please help? I ahve a 2000 TD4 and since the cold weather the engine fan kicks in as soon as the vehicle is started and is really loud and doesnt seem to be going off. Is this normal for the coldness or is something wrong? Many thanks for any advice. :)

Hi and :welcome2:

I am guessing that you are hearing the lovely sound of the fbh (Fuel Burning Heater) which many folks didn't know about until the first time it springs into life due to the cold weather.

Just to be sure - have a look under the front bumper at the passenger side.

You should see a corrugated metal pipe approx 1" diameter.

That is the exhaust from the fbh. Its purpose is to get the engine up to working temp quicker in the cold weather (below about -5degreesC)

Without it, you would also have to wait longer for your cabin heater to throw out sufficient heat for these cold days.

If there is no 1" corrugated pipe - report back as there may well be some other 'problem'.

Cheers, Singvogel.
