Now then, had this problem a while ago, on full lock noise (deep pitched grind / vibration) comes from rear axle area. Panicked and got a new VCU from Bell.

All was quiet until recently, VCU has now done 3k miles and noise and vibration is back.

Any ideas?? Had a look underneath and all looks solid, no subframe movement, bushes look o.k although am going to change front diff one as slight crack.

Tyres all matched and have similar tread. Will re-check VCU with test and compare to when first fitted.

Must have happened to someone else?

Thanks.

I get noises on full lock from the rear too, its more like a creaking noise though. I am sure in my head that its the rear diff but had someone look at it and they couldnt see any problems. They said the vcu was seized though so I replaced that, still get the noise. Gonna maybe leave it into a landy specialist next month to see what he thinks. I'd be interested in hearing what the cause was in your case if you get it sorted. Searching on here for problems is fine but very few people finish by saying what the cause of the problem was.

hi i had a cracking sound from the rear of my freelander and it was a cv joint also found it was a front one sounding like the rear, this solved my problem.

Quick update. Changed a split (but not disintegrated) front diff mount and the noise is now quieter but still there. How do I tell if it is a UJ, CV joint or diff? Any tests?? Thanks.

Also - anyone know of sommat to put in diff to silence it (and eliminate).

Cheers for 2013 !

Further update - Loosened all rear subframe bolts, sprayed with WD40 and re torqued. Sprayed UJ's in case tight. All bolt mountings are solid with no cracks. Noise now reduced to gentle rumble on full lock going forwards only. Has Ballyligboy got anywhere with the professionals !!!! :)

Any other ideas, all is solid to the shake and nothing seen rubbing. May remove back section of exhaust to eliminate that.

Hi, I'm a complete Freelander novice as I not had one long but wouldn't it be better to change all the mounts while you are at it.
