New Clutch adjustment for Freelander

I've just had a new clutch installed on my freelander. It is now very difficult to handle. The resistance when I press on the clutch pedal is substantial making control a challenge. I live in Ethiopia where my choice of mechanics is limited and I'm struggling to get good/reliable service. Are my clutch difficulties normal with a new clutch; a mistake in how the clutch as been installed; something that just requires a minor adjustment as per my preference or...
