Hi, story as goes: yesterday night driving at just over 50mph, slight descent and only tuching the gas pedal. Sudenly engine noise changes and I notice slight vibration. After that, there is no power in the engine. I don't hear the turbo kicking in at the usual 1500 revs , I dont have the familiar high pitch whine of the booster spining.
The engine itself sound OK, but I have much less power.... Turbo booster gone ?
Engine 300Tdi, 1998 with 298000 Kilometers on the clock.
any ideas or sugestions welcome. thanks guys

That high pitch whine from turbo means its on the way out!!
Your turbo has gone I would have thought!!

Take the inlet hose off the turbo and feel the shaft for movement.

My turbo has been making the same noise for a week now!!
How long was it before it give up on yours??

I have a spare turbo waiting to go on, but CBA yet

hi Sible88, the high pitch whine has been there for years !!! It wasn't very loud, so when you put your foot down on the throtle, you coul hear the booster reving up high and feel the engine power increase. That sound has gone. I took off the tube from rad to inlet manifold and covered it with my hand whilst I reved the engine. I can keep my hand covering the air flow from the turbo, and block all air even reving the engine high into 2500 revs.... I can't feel any great air pressure, so I guess turbo said "kapput".
