Have a look at the workshop manual then decide.

I have just had a look at it. It looks slightly higher level than my mechanical expertise!

I think the current plan is to order the rest of the stuff and start the rebuild, then if I have any money left over go for an Ashcroft recon one.

Chassis is essentially ordered, just got to wait for the money to clear :)

Would people recommend reusing the current loom? I am trying to save a bit of money.

Edit: Ok, looms are hundreds of £, it will have the old one cleaned up and put back in!

if the loom is in good condition then yes defo
The one in mine has that many connectors cut into it (not by me) I have no choice to replace it,

As far as I know, the 90 is all standard so shouldn't be too bad I hope.

Got to try and work out how I am going to do the dual tank system now, I guess it will be a lot easier to fit while the body is off, but I haven't really budgeted for it.

I have ordered a chassis with the TD5 tank mounts, so I will get a TD5 tank and have a pump to move the diesel to the normal tank, then a split filler I reckon.

I used an autosparks loom , cant fault it.
I decided against feeding it through the chassis rail and cable tied it up out of the way.

Ok, update on progress.

Paint for the chassis is ordered, as is 2.5l of satin black rustoleum.

That should do for now, might actually be able to crack on with some stuff soon...

Edit: I went for semi-gloss black enamel paint, no idea what it will end up like, but I thought it would be hard wearing.

Have painted axles etc with Rustoleum
bloody good stuff :D

So this weekend I will hopefully start taking my 90 apart.

Planned order is-
1) Remove wings and grille
2) Undo (6 I think) bolts that hold the body on once I work out where they are
3) Disconnect wiring, steering and all pipes I guess
4) Lift body off

Anyone got any tips?

Yeah, thanks.

So I got the bolts as being:
crossmember bolts
outrigger bolts
under bulkhead bolts

Are there any more that I am missing?

There's some at the back of the seatbox in the middle - take a look. I'm not sure also if the two bolts at the side of the seats near the door need undoing too - i undid them to remove the tub, can't remember if they just joined tub and seatbox or if there was a bit of chassis in the middle of them

Edit: Pretty sure they do involve chassis - look at the round outriggers

I think you are right, I found this

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/defender-body-chassis-help-234665.html

Which has a PDF at the bottom that goes into a decent amount of detail.

Would you cut and rejoin the rear wiring, or disconnect it and pull it out?

Didn't get as much sorted as I would have hoped, mostly due to me being forced to go to a performing arts festival.

First things were to get my shed sorted:

Then I decided to take the wings off. This this was stalled slightly when I noticed that the garage that did the bodywork before used metal rivets to hold the arches on...

So the rest of the afternoon was spent getting the rivets off. Great.

Will go up after work today and hopefully get the wings off fully.
