Hi all,

Had a bit of bad luck Sunday. 6 miles from Toms farm, heading home and my cambelt has gone.

Anyway, i have stripped the head off. Now im trying to get to the cam belt. I have got the waterpump off but cant for the life of me work out how to remove the bottom belt wheel (not sure what the propper name for it is!) When you try to turn the nut obviously the engine turns. Has anyone got a tip for stopping the engine turn while you undo the big nut on the front?

Many thanks in advance for any help!

thanks for that link trewy.

I have tried jamming a braker bar under the chassis and turning the engine over, but its not doing the trick. Has anyone got anymore tips for removing this bastid thing?

You say that the engine is just turning when you try to undo it? So there can't be any piston / valve clashing, even though the belt is broken.
I'd try sticking it in 5th with the handbrake hard on and the wheels chocked first.
If that fails, try another battery.

yeah sorry trewy. Forgot to say ive got the head off.

I have just put the jump leads on it and tried again. Seems ike there isnt enough power in the starter to undo the bastid!

What do you mean about sticking it in 5th?

Ive done 3 on a 12J engine, put it in 5th gear, get a mate to stand on the brakes, and then use a really big breaker bar and pull hard. Take up the slack in the transmission, and then keep pulling, it should come undone. I actually twisted my 1/2 inch extension bar i was pulling that hard. If you have 2 mates then get one to pull on the breaker bar really hard while you bash the end of the socket with a hammer - this can also sometimes help to shock it free.

Hope this helps!
