A search doesnt throw any threads up unless my search-fu is broke. Sorry in advance if that's the case.

I am in course of replacing a extremely tired 19J with a good 12L 200tdi out of a Discovery1 & I read that you can use a 19J timing case to give a defender 200tdi like appearance to a discovery 200tdi motor.

I'm also guessing this means the waterpump & viscous fan sits in the same location as a defender this way which means I get to keep the stock viscous fan and can use a defender 200tdi shroud? And I use the 19J alternator/PAS pump setup?
I held the pump pulleys from a 12J 2.5 n/a motor and the 12L 200tdi side by side because I have both to hand already stripped and they're different belt pitch, diameter etc so what is the combination in respect of inside the timing chest?, ie 200tdi discovery crank and injection pump pulley's, defender 200tdi belt and 19J timing case?

TIA for any insight. I know its a lot of messing about, but the more defender 200tdi it looks, the easier time I will have with any authorities here, as although swapping engine type's isn't permitted, Landrover France themselves fitted the 200tdi defender under waranty so its a exception to the rule.

ok 0 replies, I'm guessing that its not a known swap.
I did some cursory looking and the 19j timing case is shallower than a 200tdi one, and the injection pump is carried lower down, so it would need replacement diesel injector lines too, so could it be that its not really feasible to do?

Injector pump mountings the same?
I know 19j has the Cav pump and 200 has the Bosch unit.
I doubt many will notice it is a disco lump, much better way to make it look more defender like is to fit the 200 tdi inlet and exhaust manifolds.

That bit works in that the 19J CAV pump has the same mounting flange so it can bolt on to a disco timing case (I actually did this last night trying to figure stuff out), so the bosch pump should mount on the 19J timing case the same. The bit that throws a spanner in the works is the depth of the timing case is wider on the discovery engine when I measured it so not only are the pulleys larger and wider & have a wider belt, the timing case itself is also wider to accomodate this (and its a different shape as mentioned, so the injection pump is carried much lower). The timing pulleys off the 19J don't look like they bolt onto the 200tdi equivalents...
I read a few comments that the timing case was the same between the 19J and 200tdi on here & on another forum a poster saying you could run the 19J cover on a 200tdi which set my interest off. When in reality just the timing case mounting bolt flange to the motor are the same and the case itself is totally different.

The possible way would be to find a 200tdi defender front case & manifolds to mount up on the disco motor, but they're like hens teeth to find here and serious money. So like you suggest I will probably just go with keeping the discovery timing case and fit a electric fan to avoid the cowl obviously in the wrong place & the 19J manifolds as I originally planned.

The 19j and 200 fan cowlings (not sure if same part number?) are also as rare as hens teeth.
