Belt Tensioner! Urgent Help

Since no one is responding to the other post, I've made a new one!

Really need help with this! Belt tensioner is not moving to let me get the belt on, the nut is moving but tensioner is not could maybe get a spanner in behind but I've no idea the size and internet search has been no help.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.
 
Not 100% but I'm sure I read somewhere on here that someone used a 22/24mm aviation spanner but I was looking for information on freelander 1 TD4 so I could be wrong
 
Thanks for your reply, yeah the front bolt is a 24mm but the back is smaller I think.

Tried to get a few sizes on but the angle is terrible and I don't want to take half the engine apart just for this!

24 mm for the freelander td4, you need a very long and thin spanner to do the job.

How did you get the belt out, in the first place ? You should slack the tensionner the same way to remove it and to fit the belt.

The bolt behind is certainly lose, so you need to tighten it.
 
There's a section in RAVE that shows how the tensioner comes out. I had the same problem on my wifes FL1 TD4. If I remember correctly you can remove the engine mount & jack the engine enough to remove it but cannot be sure.

with the engine in place, the 13mm nut behind will need a thin spanner to hold it. It probably needs the idler below removed to get the spanner in there.

Thanks pwood, couldn't find that in rave, do you know what section it's under? Checked the engine section but couldn't see it.
 
Did you manage to solve this?

Have the same issue, 24mm nut just spins with no end in either direction.

I put a dot on the back nut and spun the 24mm one around a few times, went back and the back nut dot had not moved. - I'm not sure they're linked.

Managed to wrangle a flex head ratchet spanner onto the back by going at it from underneath oil filter housing and then onto the nut. Couldn't get anything to sit on the nut but then thats not to say the last owner rounded mine.

Luckily enough for me the current belt is in good condition but i have suspicions about a rumbly pully, just can't get the belt off to inspect...

Hi Swl, yeah I had to take off the pulley just under the tensioner (used an Alan key, can't remember the size) then was able to get a 15mm spanner in behind and tighten up the bolt (not sure why yours isn't moving if the front one is) but unfortunately mines completely seized so have to fit a new one!

Regarding the pulley if you think it's going, mine only lasted about 2 months from when I started hearing a slight noise to completely shredding itself (see above video) and taking the 2 belts with it! So id get it seen too sooner rather than later.

Ah no bother, I've just found your original post from before you changed the crank pulley and looked at the pics Arctic2 put up.

Seems I was trying to do the bolt at the back of the spring loader tensioner part rather than the bolt that holds it to that little spring bar. That would be why it was acting odd.

Will have a look next week and see if I can get to that nut.
