As you look in the engine bay, it's on the right hand side, behind the battery alongside the fuel pump. Hope this helps :)

Looked at where you said and er no it's not there the ecu is there in a box plus the fuse box. When the ignition is turned on the fuel pump sounds as it in the middle of the car so i still have no idea where the fuel filter is.
Regards Chas

Yes, the ECU and fusebox are there....... now look down the side of those, you will see two cylinders, the fuel pump and filter. Keep looking :D

If you're talking about pumps, there are three; one in the tank, the secondary one next to the fuel filter I'm talking about, and a high pressure pump.

from late 2002 they fit the same single pump with fuel filter in the rear wheel arch same as face lift

late 2002 Fuel Filter is under the RHS rear wheel arch.

And what a bugger it is. Do a search before you think about changing it as it is usually seized in the mounting bracket and the pop rivets that secure it to the mounting bracket are often badly corroded. Only needs changing every 60,000 miles, just hope it was done on a previous service.

If you turn the ignition key to position II and listen by the offside rear wheel for the pump humming then thats where your filter is too. Its not that big a deal to replace.
