Subject: Freelander clutch problem

on 40000miles now and I've just developed a problem changing gear the clutch
not coming back up under it's own steam needing me to hook a foot under it
to lift it. It will be ok then for a few miles and then happen again a
mechanic told me it's a sealed hydraulic unit and has to be change complete
cost about £212 the part and £40 labour. Anyone any views or knowledge
please any info gratefully received.

Regards Martyn

What you are decribing does sound like the clutch master unit. 'Fraid I don't know if its a-replace-the-whole-lot-sealed-unit or not ... My Haynes manual is out of reach at the moment.

Cheers

Yes it is a sealed unit slave/master cylinder, pipe and header tank. Land
Rover Enthusiast covered this in the June 2006 mag, page 106 and 107.

But they quoted the price as £45.95 part number STC000180.

Looks like a nice weekend job.
