Hi, I have fallen in love with my new landy, well it's not new it's a 52 plate but it's new for me. Owning horses has made me get into the 4x4. However there's few things id like to fix on it. Mainly electrical and only have manual book to read from. Currently the boot is stuck locked and the keys don't work unless you insert it into the drivers door. If you lock it this way and then unlock, when you open the door it sets off the alarm and the boot still doesn't open. Passenger front window regulator isn't working (ordered a new one) and the rear drivers side same problem (part ordered also) the drivers side speaker is blown I think because it makes horrible noise when radio is certain volume. On occasion the dashboard light comes on to say a door is open, then goes off depending how bump the road is. Any help and direction would be apprectiated, my garage quoted me £400 and I'm kinda into fixing things myself but so far I have only taken the door panels off.
Thank you for any response!

Welcome along, @Hippo is a resident FL owner and is a Gooden along with @Nodge68. For me, I'd burn it:p

Welcome to the forum

Typical FL faults as they age. Simple fixes if you have a few tools and a few sovs to spend on parts. All covered many times in the FL section below.

The fl1 is a much under rated vehicle and are very capable. A 52 plater is now 20 years old so you have to expect a few faults. The boot lid being stuck is a common problem, when it used to happen to mine, it would sometimes unlock itself if I played with the rear window switch.

It was working fine until it went in for mot, the guy said he cut my electric window wire to lift the Windows up and hold in place, my boot window works fine though. I have a key just got the boot but it doesn't unlock the latch, I've replaced all fuses too (I'm a beginner) oh and he took off the rear wiper too as it wasn't fixed properly.
I have regulator parts now so I'm going to you tube till death and for idiots I don't mind paying money but as a single parent I'm used to doing things myself :)

The boot window actuates a switch which can stop the boot (back door) from opening. The position of the switch can move.causing problems opening the.door the trouble is, the.door needs.to be.open.to check it. Try toggling the boot window up and.down a couple of inches to see if that unlocks the door.

Wanted to provide an update, got my boot working, changed 2 regulators on Windows and now they work although some wiring has to be traced as there's no output to one of the motors now, changed front speakers and 're connected wires so now have music :) all going well until I went into reverse and lost the gear, it feels like it connects in gear but the revs do not move the vehicle.
I was advised to check fluid transmission level and perhaps top up, in order to do this I need to get under the vehicle which I'm unable to, so went to my garage, where I was met with I may aswel buy new transmission and then will be in excess of £1500 so why I don't I buy a new car....
If I had the money would I be driving a 20 year old vehicle?? I wasn't happy, I asked if they could just check fluid for me and they wouldnt. Crazy how mechanics just prefer new parts to fit and not actually work on cars.
So I find myself in here for research and confidence to do this myself :) can't get worse can it

You shouldn't say that about all mechanics, FYI à lot small parts on vehicles are being designed to throw and some are nigh on impossible to fix due to construction techniques. I would refuse an autobox oil change depending on the oil colour after taking a sample. If it's black and stinking then the tranny is finished already. Unfortunately dealer advice at a time for most makes was "the autobox is sealed for life" the life of what and how long is this life period.... So most autobox's are ignored...

Apologies , "my mechanics I've met" always say this, I guess I'm just paranoid being a female and they see dollar signs walking through their doors ha. I was shocked to find he didn't even why to check fluid. He quoted me 2nd hand trans box for £440 then £100 for 're fluid and 3 or 4 hours Labour costs. I thought I'm going to check myself cus if it is f**kd then i can't make it worse

If you are going to check the fluid level, make sure the engine is running.
The fluid should just and only just trickle from the plug hole.
Your not being a paranoid female, thats you looking out for yourself and questioning answers. You should always question, it helps you to justify and understand. :)

Thank you :) I've bought some fluid incase needs a top up (correct for the freelancer 1) but I'm not too sure how to top up but I guess I will find out more as soon as I get under the car. At the moment I'm having to plan drives where I know I don't have to reverse which isn't the safest :/

Thats awful having to deal with that as well.. Is there anyone local on landyzone international rescue nearby who could help or are you good to go yourself with the job? Remember the car has to be as level as possible to get a good reading. It does sound like the box has bigger issues than an oil level but you never know:)

Really can't imagine why a mechanic would refuse to even check the gearbox oil.
Case of can't be Rsed I expect.
Also maybe, just maybe, they think a woman doesn't really know anything.
Sad to mention sexism but it does exist in the motor trade, I know several females who have come across it and ask me to go with them whenever they have to go to a garage.
If I lived near you I'd come over and look at it for you, even though I don't have a Freeloader!!!

(But you do need to watch what you say about mechanics, cos there are a few on 'ere!)

Thank you, wish you did live closer and maybe I worded it wrongly about mechanics plus I've met a lot who see a Blondie coming their way!! However it's also when you do know things then some mechanics like to put a woman in their place.. Maybe I shouldn't have started talking about jatco transmissions as he started going on about bmw and Volvo xc90 etc..I massively admire all mechanics and I was in the army within the motor trade, I can take the mechanics on ;)

Glad to hear it.
Could you tell us why you can't get under the FL, to do the biz? Is it a question of having to do it outside? Lack of jack and axle stands?
I have recently been forced to check and replenish the ATF on my Disco 2 on a very regular basis due to a leak. I could do it relatively easy cos I can squeeze under it, just.
But If I couldn't I'd have been forced to do a lot of flipping jacking etc. right pain! So I feel your pain.
I have a mate, male, who used to ring me up often when in a garage, (most often Charlie Browns for some reason), when he felt he was about to be ripped off. The benefits of mobile phones!;)
