dodgy key fob

There are several things you can try.

First lock it and then unlock it with the key. Now try pressing lock and then unlock on the fob. Is it working now? If not does the led on the dash stop flashing?

Open the drivers door. Does the alarm go off ? if it doesn't hopefully it's sorted. If it does try pressing unlock on the fob. has the alarm stopped? If it hasn't, insert the key in the ignition. turn the ignition on. Is the alarm still sounding? If yes press the unlock button. Will it now start.

Try the bove and post the results.
 
Cheers, Unfortunatley not, the car had had a replacment barell at some time so I have two keys one with the lock/unlock button which also opens the door and the second (a normal key) which fits the barrel. I am not sure if the magnetic thing wirks if the kes is only close tot he barrel not actually in it. of not then I think I am a bit stuffed. I have also checked for the number you can enter on the fob but no one has filled int he details. Bloody cars!

One last thing you can try before having to get it to a garage is to disconnect the leads from the battery. Before you do this, make sure that you have the stereo code as it will be lost when the battery is disconnected.

Once disconnected touch the positive and negative leads together for a couple of seconds.

Wait 10 mins and then reconnect the battery.

Now try and start the vehicle.

I doubt I can do this as the alarm is sounding and that will just triger the back up alarm (from what I have read). The problem I like in quite a built up area with shops etc opposite, I am getting a lot of funny looks trying to sort it out with the alarm going off. I have a number of a car locksmith I will give him a try before i have to go to the dreaded dealer.

I will let you know how I get on later when I have got it sorted.

Am I right in thinking that if I have a 2 button fob ( no LED ) from a 1997 300tdi its a dealer job to program it ? cheers
 
I asked the Land Rover dealer and they explained how to do it using the key entry code which is a series of number entered by using the key in the lock and then waiting for 5mins before putting the key in the ignition. I tried this and entered the number wrongly but for some reason it just stated working again. They say if you car is parked too close to an areial (I assume they mean a mobile phone areial) it blocks the signal for your key fob.
Anyway it working fine but not sure what I did.

ive bort a 97 disco 1 with 1 2btn fob so ive bort a fob of ebay, im reading conflicting info regarding the reprogramming some say not some say yes pages 805 80-6 807 on rave seem to suggest you can but im more confused now could anyone put me right?

A two button fob requires software to programme it, a single button fob is user programmable.

Have look at Remote key's site it explains it all.
 
ive had a look on there and other sites but like i said seems to be conflicting info...s'pose im lookin for a cost free way to do it of which there is none lol, wished id have got the right info before i bort the one off fleabay
 
thanks for that, now the nightmare to find an indie sod the stealers i assume they charge and an arm and a leg
