Just a quick question:

Dipped beam not working....both sides

Side lights ok
Main beam ok
Fog lights ok
Rear lights ok

Fuses for dip seem ok - slots 19 & 20 (I think!!)
Bulbs 'look' ok - filaments don't seem to be severed

The dip seemed to come on for a split second when I turned the stalk switch and the switch works for side and main. Just seems strange that both o/s and n/s lights are out at the same time!!!!

Other than changing the bulbs, just in case and possibly the switch - any other ideas??

Was a bit dark at 6:15 this morning to have a good poke around!!!

Thanks.

It's possible that you had already lost one side and didn't notice, it only became apparent when the other filament failed. Get the bulbs out in daylight and check the filaments. My local Pound shop was doing a run on H4 bulbs. I've had them in now for over 2 months. Cheap way to check your fault?

Good luck,

Andy

My bad!!! Obviously I didn't see the knackered filament at 6:15 in the morning - it was either too dark or I was still asleep.....

Anyways - new bulbs and we're all good!!! Amazing what a bit of light can do :D

Apologies for the numpty post

I park in front of my lounge window and can see the reflection of my headlights so I know when I've got a duff bulb.....they were ok last night when I got home - seems like just turning them on blew the bulb.....

(possible dumb question alert!!)

My 2002 has H4's.... are H4's and H7's interchangable ?

If my memory serves...

Up to 2006 facelift...H4 dual filament bulbs.

After 2006 facelift...H7 single filament bulbs.

Yes they can fail when turning them on. The wire that heats up in the bulb to create light expands a bit when getting hot. It wears over time until it goes open circuit and you fail to get light. Sudden temp change as it turned on probably finnished it off.

Cheers for that Hippo.....
