OK, I have done a search on here and understand that Ashcroft can do this with stand alone ECU controller. Is there a simpler way of doing a Discovery Auto transplant into a Defender? I know I will need different flywheel etc etc but I want to know about the control of the Auto box.

Thanks! :)

you can use a box with td5 front end and ealier mechanical govenor in the back so only a kick down cable needed

Great info - thanks. Anyone done this? What is the mechanical governor like in use - I have not tried one? Better off sticking with manual?

Cheers,

its fine ive actually converted the boxes as they are all basically the same box its not too bad

Sorry to resurrect this one, but need your advice please.

I am fitting a zf4 from a 300tdi on to a TD5 over the winter. I have found a TD5 auto bell housing (eventually!), what other bits do I need to connect the box to the engine?

The TD5 is currently a manual. I am getting the next size up torque converter as I do a lot of towing.

Cheers..Al

crank sensor putting in bell housing ,and a kick down cable connected to throttle pedal with adjustment oil cooler connecting

Wow, that was quick, thanks:)
Iv'e cut a kick down cable and a TD5 throttle potentiometer , what do you mean by 'adjustment oil cooler'?

What about the flywheel etc?

The TD5 engine I have bought to replace my 300tdi is a manual, and want to fit the 300tdi zf4 auto to it, when I change everything, so just trying to get clear in my mind what I need to find.

Cheers.
