My son has dropped a Td5 engine and r380 gearbox into his old 90 (1989 that had a badly done 200tdi conversion). He bought a stand alone loom and managed to wire this all up. However he has now gone back to Uni and left me to finish it, thanks, which I’m doing. The issues I have are around the wiring - in particular I can’t get the alternator to charge and it doesn’t light the dash warning light. Also can I use the Td5 temp sensor and oil pressure gauge or do I have to adapt the originals. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know what a "Stand Alone Loom" is, a link or explanation would be helpful.
From memory, a Td5 needs two tin square relays and an ECU to function, does said vehicle appear to have these?
I think you will have to use sensors for a Td5, there are very few similarities between a Td5, a 200Tdi, or the engine that vehicle would originally have had, probably a 2.5 TD(19j).
Neither of those engines have any electronics, but a Td5 has plenty. Then there are minor differences like number of cylinders, completely different engine block and head, fuel system, probably a different running temperature.

There are several members on the forum that are very knowledgeable about Td5s. I am not one of them.
But I think they will need a good deal more detail, and hopefully some pics of the engine bay, before they can be of much assistance.
