Condensation, wtf?

Mind your hand don't go thru the floor :)

LOL, I have given them a good seeing to from underneath and all seems ok, I would expect some surface rust but I can't see any holes from under.

See how it goes on Sunday, if I have time I'll get the mats up.

Not sure about fitting vents, there must be some hidden away somewhere unless they actually wanted them to rust away?

Its a Landy.......it dosent have to make sense :D They made these cars up as they went. You could try a de-humidifier [someone else suggested] or those hygroscopic crystals that you put in caravans that absorb moisture from the air and collect it in a tray.Good idea to leave windows open an inch on opposite sides of the car so you get a cross flow of fresh air. Just imagine how much moisture gos into the car from your breath and perspiration when you have a car full of people. Then you shut the windows and lock the doors for the night and wonder where all that water on your windows has come from in the morning.

Captain tolley is great for around glass to rubber seals etc, it creeps in and dries but needs dry warm weather to work really well.

My gutters are just ****ing in, no seal at all on one side. I really do need to check the fronts even if just for peace of mind.

Did a bead down my gutters and round the outside of my sunroofs where the black trim meets the roof and along the top of my winscreen.

Was dryish and not too warm but seemed to dry ok. Best to get the landy nice and warm inside and go for a run with the heaters on and a window open a little.

I found my windscreen was wet on the inside this morning, but I think mine is more internal condensation than leaks, I also get drips on my head from the sunroof glass but I am sure the sunroofs aint leaking as the headlining is always dry.

I am selling mine soon anyway so not going to go crazy trying to get it watertight.

Yeah, I know, it's a landy, it's made in England, made out of spare parts yada yada :D:D:D:D

But surely, no air vents?? Were they really that stupid?

I wouldn't leave the windows open just in case. I do have a dehumidifier in the workshop, but if the mats are wet, ill get them out and dry them properly while sealing up any leaks I can find. I'm on a mission now, she'll float like a boat when I'm done

I've stuck half a bottle of tolley along my gutters, made no difference, I think the cracks are just too big for it to seal. I'm gonna take the trim strips off all round and go at it with the sealant then give her 24hours in the dry to cure it, it's about the best I can do I think.

Have you taken the inside trim off? I have seem some with a lot of rust under the alpine windows, perhaps thats why the holes are big.

Yep, it's all very sound. I've got the headlining down, the carpets out, the rear quarter panels down and the alpine trims down.

I'm taking the dicky seats out and the lower quarter trims too so I can check the floor edges and paint it all in liquid rubber.

I have seen pictures of massive holes below the alpines but lucky not this one.

Update

All the rear is now stripped out. All panels are in excellent condition considering the water and the age :)

I have also found the missing airvents!!!!!! They are hidden behind the O/S rear lower quarter panel, there are two vents with little valve type flaps to stop air/water coming back in presumably. I can't see how the air is supposed to get to them though as its all cased in by the panel?

Still, at least they do exist :)

Since driving to/from work with the rear windows cracked a little, the condensation is much better so im guessing that the whole headlining saga was caused by a massive build up of water inside condensing onto the roof and flooding down when driven.

I'm hoping to get her indoors on sunday to mastic anything that does not move;)

Hi, ive just taken full interea out of my 95 disco, headlinig, panels, carpets, soundproofing which was sopping wet, I removed the head lilinig a few days prier and got bad condensation, This was caused with the wet soundproofing, Carpets and soundproofing do come out with a few small cuts with Mr stanley, And yes there are air vents at rear right behind dicky seat panel.

Hi All,

As someone said previously the little moisture traps work well for me, I had wet carpets when I got the car, put 4 of these in and was dry in a week. I keep one in the boot and one under the seat in the front now all the time and so far bone dry! They cost a couple of quid and I change them every 8 weeks.

Cheers,

Chris.

Whats a moisture trap and where can i get them from?

[ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kilrock-Slimline-Moisture-Trap/dp/B0017RKFN2]Kilrock Slimline Moisture Trap: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home[/ame]

if your disco is anything like mine buy a few to get you going :hysterically_laughi

I just leave mine in, change them when they have water on top of the crystals ( 6-8 weeks on mine)You can pick them up at the range, and Robert Dyas as well as others I'm sure.

I've started to get a wet windscreen from the inside lately. Only since I disturbed the carpets at the weekend and attempted to mop up a little of the water.

I will go look for these moisture traps and see if the do the job.

I guess they work best if there is some heat in the cab. Either from the heaters or some kind of home heater/blower left in there.

No they dont need any heat to work. Just leave them in and they do the job. Also handy to have one on window bottoms in bedrooms if you suffer from condensation in winter.:)
