The car has been fine then all of a sudden on a fairly long journey back to Sheffield I noticed it harder and harder to get it into a gear. It got to the point where I left the motorway and in a queue found I couldn't find a gear at all. I noticed the clutch pedal wasn't returning all the way back so I pumped the pedal a few times and normal service was resumed.

With my very limited knowledge I'm guessing the master and slave cylinders are worth a look. Any references to where I need to look or any other aspects worth investigating. It's a 2002 TD4 btw.

Thanks

You could try bleeding the system.....but I would then look at changing the master cylinder first as the slave would mean gear box out.

Mines started doing the same.
Its also losing fluid which I am having to top up,so as I can`t see any leaks inside or out
I fear it will be the concentric slave cylinder in the gearbox.
To which I have just purchased a clutch kit with the slave and a DMF just in case it needs changing (It can go back if the original is OK but the truck has done nearly 150,000 miles
so I think I shall have to spend the money)
Good luck with yours.

I had exactly the same problem, just had a new master cylinder fitted today and now its working. However, the clutch pedal can be lifted really high? not good with cars so don't wanna mess around myself but does anyone have an idea why this could be happening?
