Hello,

I've just bought a 300tdi 110 to replace my 200tdi 90 and there is no history regarding the timing belt. Naturally I am going to replace it as a matter of precaution but I have been reading lots and lots of things about timing modification kits that Land Rover produced.

Apparently there are a few kits available, some with pulleys that have lips, some without and one which comes with an entirely new front cover. Now the question that I have is with regards to what is what and what the reasons were for Land Rover to keep changing their minds on whether or not to put a lip on the pulleys etc?

I would also like to ask whether or not this kit is pretty much an option to cover all grounds? Range Rover Classic 300 tdi Modified Timing Belt Kit | eBay

My 110 is 1995, so one of the earlier 300tdi engines.

Please de-confuse me!

I have 1995 130 and when I pulled the front off I had half a belt left and a casing full of rubber shreds.
After reading around I put on a kit with full new casing. Been perfect since and I have peace of mind.

Do you have any idea what was different about the new front cover?

Good stuff, thanks for the replies. I might also ask about the dreaded 'p' gasket too. Is the general rule of thumb to replace it and ensure that you know it is good or just leave it be if there are no signs of a leak?

Hi Sorry to add to an old question but I'm going to replace my timing belt on a 2000 300tdi (im guessing its a late one, as the engine came off a special order vehicle to Saudi).

Question is, do i need to replace all pulleys, belt, bots, gaskets etc etc with an entire kit (STC4096L) or shall i just get a belt and a gasket? as i already have the lip on the pulleys.

cheers all

:nothingtoadd:

Also ordered the kit, posting as ive never fitted one and might need guidence :D

check the how to, theres a good writeup in there, thinks its for the 200, but the 300s the same near as dammit.
Even I (who has cocked up every other cam belt change ive tried by a tooth) got it right.
if you've never done one before, Id take the rad etc out, so you can see easier.
Good excuse to change the coolant, and flush the intercooler anyhoo.

Tippex a mark on all the pulleys to a mark on the engine yourself then you know it ran well before it will when it's back together.
I also loosely sketch anything I take off onto a piece of cardboard and pierce the bolts through in their correct positions.
Light smear of silicon to hold gaskets in place.
Finally pray to your chosen God that the water pump bolts come out in one piece.

Cheers! I'll have a search for the write up. The radiator shouldnt be a problem as its rear mounted. I've got a sharpie looked out, a nice drill bit for the timing pin. Plenty silicone grease and i'll drown the water pump bolts in WD40 if need be.

I got this.
