    Manual vs. Auto

I Know Aschroft supply & fit a recon Jatco with 12 months warranty for £1500. Local quotes for a clutch & DMF range from £700 to £1100 on the manual. After messing about last time, if any fault required the jatco to come out I would just have a recon done by Ashcroft. After spending so much...

    Manual vs. Auto

Thanks guys. It's a tough one as during the week I'm doing city driving around Manchester, but at the weekends its rural Tayside or Cornwall. the auto was always brilliant in the mud & snow and it worries me a bit regarding burning the clutch. My old TD4 auto used to be able to get me through a...

Any problems with the manuals over your use? Also have you had to change any cylinders or clutches yet?

    Manual vs. Auto

Just curious who runs an auto and who runs a manual & also has anyone ran both. My previous Freelanders have been Auto's and the auto box has always been the cause of me selling it on. Last one went at 70k and is the reason I sold the car for next to nothing as getting the car to ashcroft &...

    misted screen options

If it's happening 15 mins into the journey I'd check the cubby hole in the boot. Could be damp and as the exhaust/back box heats up it's evaporating and condensing on your cold windows.

    misted screen options

I use the rain-x anti misting/fogging stuff in mine. Doesn't eliminate the problem and can be a bitch to get on smear free but after a few applications mine clear much much quicker. Only a few quid a bottle from motor factors/halfrauds. Worth a go. Also worth eliminating any damp areas in the...

    please be gentle

I'd say Drop Links, especially with the cold weather. Cheap Drop Links last only a couple of months before knocking, still look like they are fine but just enough play to get that loud knock around the wheel arch area inside the car. I changed mine twice with cheap ones which failed in months...

whats the most anyone has paid for tyres on their freelander?

£640 for a set of 4 Goodyear Wrangler AT's about 2 years ago. But that was because I was living in deepest Cornwall at the time and companies like Black Circles wouldn't do mobile fitting to my area, so I only had the option of Hi-Q.

    freelander banging noise help needed

I'd say rear diff mount too. Had a similar problem, changed diff mounts & all fine.

    Poor cold starter

I had the same and it was a ruined injector. Changing it solved the problem, but you say that has been done, maybe still have a duff injector in the ones that haven't been done.

    Poor cold starter

Could be a weak battery or knackered glow plugs. Do you wait for the glow plug light to go out before turning it over?

I just tweeted a link to this thread to LR Owner International & LR Monthly. Let's see if they bother to check it out. I love all Land Rovers but my funds are tight & our family can only afford to run one car. We often drive 300 miles each way to Scotland & back to visit my Wifes disabled...

    New Freelander costs gone heavy.

I had a lot of offers for it. A few poor ones sub £3k but then two buyers offered £3.5k. Went to the first guy who turned up with cash. Very happy. Gearbox fault wasn't a big deal, would just slip now and then but perfectly drivable.

    New Freelander costs gone heavy.

My maths is way off, was a. Rough night last night :) I bought it in march so just after the white months when they are pretty cheap. Sold it just before the snow last year when prices peak. Before me it was one disabled woman who owned it. Needed it to fit a Wheelchair in. Was pristine.

    New Freelander costs gone heavy.

My last Freelander was a 52 plate td4 automatic. 35k on the clock. £4200. Spent around £2000 on repairs and maintenance including mot and insurance over 4 years including gearbox work. Sold it 4 years on for £3.5k with a gearbox issue and 80k on the clock. Would have got what I paid without...

And to be honest I'm much more comfortable owning my car as an asset rather than always making payments. Maybe a little old fashioned but I'm loathe to owe anyone anything.

    Newbie after some possible guidance

Duh, it's too early. Forgot to mention cold mornings plus running of all ancillaries such as heaters, wipers, lights, heated seats if you have them all put a little extra strain on your engine, which may account for a slightly lumpy idle & the needle moving around a little bit at idle.

    Newbie after some possible guidance

Oh & a double dose of Millers in your diesel & a dose everytime you fill up. Makes year round running much better & makes the engine just that little sweeter. Mine went from being a bit of a bitch to start on very cold mornings to starting instantly. just a thought.
