hi just bought a freelander 1.8 softop model but im having proplems when changing gear from 1st to 2nd and giving it a bit of gas it sounds like a banging coming from middle of car near propshaaft now its had new propshaft bearings in middle etc and a new vcu etc etc so what could it be the garage want £100 just to look at it for me so im lost... if I drive very carefull their is no noise its like a banging about 15 tims all together.. bang bang bang bang bang etc ive been under it and carnt see nothing that looks like its banging against body etc no morks and ive tried swinging on propshaft but their no movement from it so any ideas I would be really gratefull.....

Have you shaken the propshaft at both ends to see if there is any play? Could be the UJ's giving up

Rear diff mount.
Had the same on my L series (forgot to log that one in the fault list!)

hiya and thx for the replys ive just had it up in the air and its already had new rear diff mounts and centre prop bearings ....?

Is it a series of thumps which start loud and get a bit softer towards the end?

Well, it sounds like a diff mount, but I'd be interested to hear if it isn't.

Appn if the OP put his location in, somebody lacal might be able to have a look...

... But then again the OP has probably buggered off and the next we'll hear of him is when the bad weather/zombie apocalypse/rear diff drops off*

top, bottom or both engine mounts, probly.

mine did it, it was a bastidge to track down.

could also be rear diff mounts too.

just twigged

that could be why my gear linkage does the lambada! :scratching_chin:

Appn, Yours int bad at all as they go but then again with your mileage compared to mine there will be a difference.

Thinking about it though, when I re-bushed my disco, it went from blancmange to turgid so appn swapping bits round might make a difference...

Just a thought mate but ive heard of new parts turning out to be defective on more than 1 occasion. Did you have the diff mounts changed or do they just look new when you had a gander?
