They're okay, but over a long drive, won't you get sweaty arse syndrome? Isn't it easier just to let them get a bit mucky and then clean them occasionally if the mother in law is getting in? Or just use a feed bag? Or am I being a bit too agricultural?

The starter solenoid problem usually has symptoms where it won't start, then it will, with the won't start times becoming more frequent as time goes on, if that helps. When it doesn't start, everything else works except there's a click.

I've got a pursuit. That was the bog standard upgrade one they did with nowt extra. But the less there is....the less to go wrong. Why the hell they called it that I don't know. About the only thing it'll pursue successfully would be a Sinclair C5.

I think that removing the oil is treating the symptom rather than the cause. You need to get to the problem of why the oil is there, or it'll just come back again. I can't say I'm any sort of expert on the subject, but it sounds gasket related to me. Dishwasher tablets? Interesting.

How can you quantify? Variables such as driving style, length of journeys, stop/start traffic conditions, uphill/downhill driving, passengers, load carried, temperature, accessories in use, leaky diesel pipe connections/FPR, offroad conditions, external accessories (Aerodynamic qualities)...

Yeah. If you're not going over rocks and stuff, yer usual suspension is fine. That is what they're made for. Unless you just want it for the bling effect. Just buy the best one you can find and look to fit the tyres you want. AT's or MT's depending on your usage I should say.

They are more problematical than a simple two wheel drive car with no offroad capabilities without doubt, simply because there's more to go wrong. The way to look at it is to accept that there will be more running costs and budget accordingly. In effect, you pay for the better capabilities...

The facelift ones do have numerous little updates - too numerous to mention really. So they're preferable, but a crap facelift is worse than a good non-facelift model. The later the better, but condition is everything of course. I expect, having scoured the posts on here you'll have seen that...

I think that £200 won't get you much of a trailer. With a Disco it really doesn't matter what sort of trailer you get, it'll pull 'em. I would agree that your best bet is to scan Ebay, or your local papers for anything.

darrenm - I get one bleep, but not every time. I thought it may be that whilst turning the key I press one of the key buttons and that causes it. Or perhaps it is because I engage the starter motor whilst it's trying to do something such as checking lights. Anybody know?

You'll all be catching 20/50 oil cancer or something. So like all the mechanics do now, wear bum inspection gloves! You hands can be as good as the wife's (if she uses Fairy of course).

Could well be the FPR, I thought mine was. Have a look at my thread for an alternative reason for your symptoms. In my case, it was two problems. Might give you one idea of where to look if you find the FPR isn't the problem...

I don't believe there's much discounting to be had off new Discos at the present. At least so I'm told.
