Series 3 Starter Motor or battery

OK, I don't want to sound patronising here, but it might be time to pause and step back from it a bit. Compression doesn't just go, unless a piston holes or a valve head falls off. Lack of compression is only really due to serious internal mechanical problems. If two cylinders of four really had...

Series 3 Starter Motor or battery

Don't even bother replacing points/condenser with new - go electronic. Something like Powerspark is not that much more expensive than new points and condenser, and FAR more likely to be reliable. New condensers - not just for Landies, they're all basically the same - are abysmal quality.

    Series 3 Ignition light

When you say "Ignition light", you definitely mean the charge light, not the oil pressure light?

    Battery fitting

Think of the battery as a tank, and the alternator as a pump. (Voltage is "pressure", current/amps is "flow", the battery capacity/Ah is the size of the tank). The alternator will put the same maximum output out - it'll just take longer to fill the battery from totally discharged. Or, for the...

    Battery fitting

Simply, it can't. so almost certainly something's got knocked, probably around the distributor. Cap's been knocked? It's been rotated slightly, so the timing's out? Vac pipe off?

Series 3 Brake/clutch bleeding with syringe or eezibleed

It may be that the return springs are old and weak - I had to replace some on mine.

Series 3 Brake/clutch bleeding with syringe or eezibleed

Yep, you need to sort the leaking cylinder - and re-rubbering is a penny-pinching shortcut when new cylinders are as cheap as they are for Landies. The easiest way to "isolate" a wheel is just to clamp the flexi - there's umpteen different designs of clamp on the market specifically designed...

do not buy this seat belt.....unless

Which is why they've said they'll give him a returns number. But I think this might be just another case of not all s3 being quite the same - the (seemingly factory-fit) inertia-reels on mine ARE vertically mounted, on the back of the bulkhead. No upper mount, they just come over the back of...

Trying not to coo my 19j, any tips?

The only way taking the stat out will help is if it's not opening - is the rad getting hot? Quickly and evenly?

Series 3 88" SW sliding window channel kits

It's been made very clear to me that having to remember which windows open and which won't is not a situation which will be allowed to continue... So - who's good for a complete kit of sliding window channels? It's a factory SW, so the big square-cornered rear side windows. I need a driver's...

I certainly expected that'd be the case, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

Well, the Bearmach gaiters have just arrived - and they don't look or feel any different to those from the Blue Bag of Bodge. Time will tell...

Series 3 Bitten by the blue bag again...

This time, gear and handbrake lever boots. Not even been in use for six months, and badly ripping already. Any ideas for a source worth buying?

    Newby with a tyre question

I've got 225/75 16 Cooper winters on 7" Disco steels - if anything, they need rims narrower than those. Getting the beads to seat was a bit of a faff.

    Advice needed for long journey!

A faulty battery won't cause you to stop, mid-journey. Not charging will do, but a new battery won't fix that.

Series 3 Zenith 361V rebuild howto

I'm wondering if a warped casting base might be my problem, or if it's simply some internal gummed-uppedness, or if it's something else entirely. 42k mile from new original Zenith on very late 3-brg 2.25 in 1980 88". The car'd sat around for about 14yrs, with a couple of years on the road (but...
